I have an MKV file from an HDTV rip that includes a TV station commercial—it's just sitting there in the black frames rather than being part of the actual footage—but I'd love to strip it out. What would be the best software to use for this? Thanks!

CyberLink PowerDirector-> I suppose you could just make a black background image in some photo editor, bring the video into CyberLink PowerDirector, and use it as a PiP template over the logo before saving. Or, if you're using Adobe Premiere, maybe just use the cropping tool to cut out that black area at the top or bottom. Problem solved, I guess.

Alternatively, if you have Adobe Premiere, you can just use the cropping tool to cut out that black bar at the top or bottom of the frame!!

Thanks! Quick question—what resolution should I be using in Adobe Premiere? My video is currently 1080p.

If you have Premiere, this should be an easy fix. 😁 Just drop your video into Premiere, go to the "File" menu, and select export > Adobe Media Encoder. A small window will pop up for saving the video. You'll also see a large preview where you can adjust those cropping lines—just drag the line above the logo and then save it as an .flv (make sure you stay within Media Encoder). That should do the trick. 😁
That's my usual workflow when I'm working in Adobe Premiere CS3.

Alright, I'm attempting to download Adobe—there's a CS4 and a CS5 version available, though I'm not quite sure which one to grab just yet. ))

I've got an MKV—do I really have to save it as an FLV?

I just finished installing Adobe Premiere and went to IMPORT my MKV file, but I got this message: File format not supported? 😳

No, it’s just my own personal preference 😁 Anyway, just make sure you don't step outside of the Encoder when you're doing your saving.

Well, that’s just how it goes sometimes... You should probably just convert it. 😁

But I can't do that—is there any software out there that can actually strip that logo right out of an MKV file?

My apologies, I didn't realize we were dealing with an .mkv file right away. I guess Adobe Premiere doesn't support .mkv natively; you probably need to install the Moye Importer for Adobe Premiere plug-in to get it working.

I managed to find the free version of the Moye software and got it installed—but there's a watermark on everything, so I can't really finish my movie like this. Does anyone know where to find the full version? Also, could you walk me through how to get rid of that logo once I open the clip in Adobe Premiere?

I made a quick video just for you. 😉

I really appreciate all the effort and help—but honestly, this is just out of my league

I've been wrestling with installing Adobe Premiere CS5 for two days now—no luck—since they only offer the 64-bit version online, and I'm stuck on a 32-bit system. After wasting a massive amount of time downloading five or six different versions of CS5, I finally settled on installing Adobe Premiere CS4 instead. Now, looking at your video, the quality is a bit hard to see—plus, my CS4 doesn't have the same features as your CS5. Even if I did track down a working CS5 version, the Moye Importer is the free edition, whereas you're using the full version—so using Moye means I'll have ads popping up over my video, essentially getting an ad for their logo just by using it. It’s simply too much of a headache for me 😢 so I think I'll try a different program

PS
Installing Adobe Premiere has been a total nightmare—every single CS5 version I've tried seems to have its own unique set of issues 😠

I've been struggling for two days straight just trying to get Adobe Premiere CS5 installed, but it won't work because they only offer the online version for 64-bit systems, and I'm stuck on a 32-bit one. After wasting a ton of time downloading five or six different versions of CS5, I finally gave up and installed Adobe Premiere CS4 instead. Now I'm watching your video, but the quality is a bit hard to see, and my CS4 doesn't have the same features your CS5 does. On top of that, even if I managed to find a working CS5 version, the Moye Importer is just the free version while you're using the full one, which means I'd end up with an advertisement plastered over my video—so basically, I'd be paying to advertise a logo. It's just becoming too much of an uphill battle for me. 😢I think I'll just try using a different program instead.

Just download CS3. I'm running CS3 on a 32-bit system myself, and you should check out this video (it's actually the same one I made, so sorry for stealing the idea, placidcobra49 😁). It should work in CS4 as well, though I can't say for sure. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3OY6Om4XlzY

Regarding the Moye Importer... Your best bet is probably just to convert the video. There are plenty of converters available online that can handle that.

That isn't quite the same thing, and there's no issue regarding stolen ideas 😁 but by "cropping" the video—meaning changing the resolution—you lose the 1920x1080 aspect ratio. If you do that, it might end up being 1920x1000 or less depending on the black bars and logo size. Then it's technically no longer Full HD, if you catch my drift.👍

placidcobra49 said:It’s not really about someone stealing an idea—that isn't the issue here 😁 but when you "crop" a video by changing the resolution, you lose that standard 1920x1080 aspect ratio. Exactly—that's the catch. I'm losing my Full HD quality—now I have to hunt down the original version somewhere ((( ugh, this is killing me! 😳
