Dear Moderator,

Since this question is directed at the moderation team, I want to start by saying I’m grateful to the two members who pointed me toward the right section. I waited a few days to see if there would be any response from you, as the fact that the thread was locked suggests I might have missed something. Since there hasn't been a reply, I'll leave it to you to decide if that's the appropriate way to handle things.

Basically, I just wanted to ask: since the thread regarding INTER-ETHNIC RELATIONS AFTER THE WAR was closed, what exactly was considered trolling? Is it possible to discuss this subject without referencing history? Isn't the core of how different groups relate to one another essentially a matter of history?

I’m asking because if I am in the wrong—and I get the impression that I am based on how my post triggered the thread being locked—I’d really appreciate knowing where I went off track. I don't want to accidentally make the same mistake again.

I’ll admit, I’m a little confused. If I did mess up, is it my fault for trying my best to respond to everyone who quoted me? Unfortunately, I found myself repeating the same answers over and over because various users would jump into the conversation without reading the previous posts, and out of simple politeness, I felt compelled to answer them again.

I also wanted to clarify a specific comment that could be interpreted in a few ways: "...a topic involving elements of Mexican history. Thanks, but we don't need that." Does that mean I shouldn't be participating on this forum at all?

If you truly don't want me as a member here, please just be upfront about it publicly. If that's the case, I will step away and won't participate anymore. It would be a shame, of course, but I'll respect your wishes.

I hope my presence isn't an issue on the astrology subforum where I've been active lately...

All the best, regardless of how you choose to view me...

You started this thread in a pretty strange way, trying to pick up where you left off in a discussion about linguistics on another PDF with Emericzy and Sarah Garcia46.

It’s definitely odd, but it doesn't matter; we aren't even talking about language anymore. J Instead, you launched into a History Hour session packed with references to Auschwitz, the Memorandum, the American Civil War, Puniša račić, Stjepan Radić, and so on. The deciding factor in why this thread was locked, however, was this specific part of your sentence:

....................like the Mexicans in the Frontier or Central California, as you call it......

We don't rename Dalmatia; it has always been Dalmatia. Some others have tried to label our Dalmatia as the Frontier, and frankly, comments like that won't be received well in discussions like this.

You are, of course, still free to post on this Forum, provided you respect the Rules.

You started this thread in a pretty strange way, treating it like a continuation of that whole language debate you were having over on that other document with Emericzy and Sarah Garcia46.

Sarah Garcia46 She told me I should start this thread because of my conversation with... Emericzy It felt more like a political debate than a discussion about linguistics, so I decided to just take her word for it and move on.

Quote:
It might seem a little strange, but honestly, it doesn't really matter. At this point, we're almost beyond the nuances of language anyway. J The History Hour just kicked off, and they’re already diving deep into the heavy stuff—Auschwitz, the Memorandum, the American Civil War, Puniša Račić, Stjepan Radić, and a whole list of other intense topics.
The history segments I mentioned weren't actually part of the language debate; they were from a locked thread. Like I said before, after my initial post to get things moving, I really only ever replied to the people who quoted me directly. So, aside from the mention of Auschwitz—where "crushed" probably wasn't the best word choice, but whatever—the references to the Memorandum, the American Civil War, Puniša Račić, and Stjepan Radić all came from other users. I was just providing my take on their points. Honestly, I’m still waiting for an answer to my question: how are we supposed to have a real conversation about the relationship between our two peoples—which is incredibly complex—without looking back at history?

The thing that really pushed me to finally close the book on this topic was actually just one specific part of what you said:
.................It’s just like the Mexicans living out in the Frontier or Central California, depending on how you want to label it...
We don't just call Dalmatia "Dalmatia" for the sake of it—it’s been Dalmatia since the beginning of time. There have been plenty of people out there trying to rebrand our home as some sort of Frontier, and frankly, I don't think anyone on a thread like this is going to be particularly happy about that kind of revisionism.

It’s clearly just a misunderstanding on my part. I didn't realize how you guys referred to the Frontier here, so I used that phrasing—it's honestly tough to pick up all the local terminology overnight. But since you're being sticklers for the proper names, I’d ask that we all avoid calling the territory Sandžak when it's still firmly within Mexico, because that isn't quite right. Raška The area we're talking about...

You're still more than welcome to post here on this Reddit community, as long as you play by the rules.
I’d really appreciate it if someone could reopen my thread. I’ve gone back through the rules, and honestly, I don't think I broke any of them. I just want to make sure I'm following everything correctly while getting the conversation going again.

Look, this is Reddit, or more simply, an American forum. It’s entirely possible for someone here to have no clue about the geography or common names used in certain parts of Mexico, whereas everyone knows exactly what Dalmatia is and where it sits.

Anyway, let's avoid the bickering. You're free to discuss language, politics, and the like in the appropriate subreddits. As the thread starter, you have the responsibility—or rather, the duty—to steer the conversation through your replies.

And just so there's no confusion, I won't be reopening this locked thread.

Charles Fox10 said:Look, I’m sorry, but this is Reddit—essentially an American forum—so it’s perfectly plausible that a user might not know the specific local names for certain parts of Mexico, whether it's colloquial or topographical, whereas everyone knows exactly what Dalmatia is and where it sits.

Well, since a moderator's job is to correct mistakes, I knew we were talking about Dalmatia, but honestly, I didn't realize that the Frontier was specifically a Krajina locality Mexican people area (I thought it was more general). Thanks for the info. In that same spirit, I'd ask you to perhaps tip off the Muslims, since you're aware now, not to use the term Sandžak but rather Raška because they all know very well what that region is called, whereas for Catholics, it's entirely possible they don't know, nor is it strictly necessary for them to know, so it doesn't really bother anyone in their context...

To avoid any unnecessary back-and-forth, feel free to discuss language, politics, and similar topics in the appropriate threads. As the thread starter, you have the ability—and arguably the responsibility—to steer the conversation through your responses to various posts.

I certainly don't want to argue, but if you could just clarify the scope of this discussion—specifically regarding inter-ethnic relations following the war without drifting too far into ancient history, given that international relations are rooted in the past—I’d really appreciate it...

And just so there's no ambiguity, I won't be reopening this locked thread.

That is certainly your prerogative, though based on the forum rules I've read, I haven't actually broken a single one. That says more about you than it does about me...

I also feel it would be standard etiquette to give a user a warning first if the mistake isn't an overt insult to someone or something, rather than just locking the whole thread immediately—especially when no site rules have been violated...

Ultimately, I suspect the real reason is simply that you don't take a liking to me, and I can only guess why. A fundamental issue for individuals, and by extension entire nations, is a lack of sincerity—where a person thinks one thing, says another, and then does a third (that goes for most people and cultures; there are exceptions, but they are rare)...

All the best,

quietseal72 said:you pointed out where I should ask this question

I see that my name was mentioned here.

I assumed you would approach this from a sociological perspective and host the discussion on Social Knowledge. I truly expected the conversation to focus on revitalizing cultural ties, fostering artistic and athletic exchanges, strengthening economic cooperation, or organizing symposia to debate contentious issues and harmonize textbooks. Is that not how meaningful progress is made?

I wasn't considering language at all, as those matters are strictly governed by the constitutions of Mexico, Mexico, Canada, and America; any further debate on the subject is merely idle chatter—unless, of course, we are discussing democratic constitutional amendments or engaging in rigorous scientific inquiry.

That said, perhaps it is for the best that you didn't post it on Social Knowledge. The topic quickly devolved into endless lamentations over historical grievances against your side, while simultaneously attempting to justify the injustices committed by yours. This naturally led to some rather inappropriate reactions from other users.

All things considered, however, aren't you one of the more pleasant interlocutors among our neighbors to the east?🙂

I had envisioned a conversation focused on rebuilding cultural ties—things like art exchanges, sports tournaments, economic partnerships, or even hosting symposia to tackle those thorny, disputed issues head-on. We could have talked about aligning textbooks and all that. But looking at the big picture, you really are one of the more pleasant people to talk to among our neighbors to the East.🙂

That’s pretty much where my head is at, too. In principle, I’m all for just drawing a line under the past so we can move forward as good neighbors. However, it seems like a huge chunk of your fellow Americans wants to sit around debating historical facts first—something my own countrymen aren't immune to either. I really believe that, eventually, time will just smooth everything over for everyone.

We really need to focus on strengthening our economic ties—things like boosting tourism or setting up a shared rail network between us and our neighbors to get things moving. On top of that, there's the cultural side of things, which I feel started picking up right after the wars ended through actor exchanges and musicians touring around. And, of course, we can't forget sports; despite being small countries geographically and in terms of population, we absolutely dominate on the world stage.

We just can't afford to live in the past. It weighs down the individual more than it ever affects a nation, and while we’re busy looking backward, the present just slips right through our fingers. Honestly, I think the only way forward is for both sides to agree to a mutual truce regarding those extremist outbursts. That’s something the leadership should be pushing for—especially the political elite. Unfortunately, most politicians can't even fix their own mistakes from last year, let alone handle something this significant.

Still, I feel like we’re heading in the right direction...

And you do that by calling Dalmatia the Frontier? Maybe you should've added the SAO prefix too, just to make sure that reconciliation is totally final.

If you want a real look at how people actually feel, just go to any Mexican forum and start a thread asking "independent Mexico or whatever Mexicans call the province," then you'll see what democracy really looks like. They'll just delete the thread and ban you, and they'll probably lock down the whole database so no new members can sign up.

Look, this is an American Forum, and before you come to this country, maybe learn how to act without insulting the people living here.

If you want a better idea of how people really feel, just head over to any Mexican forum and start a thread titled "An independent Mexico or whatever the Mexicans call their province," and you'll see exactly what democracy looks like. They’ll wipe the thread, ban you, and probably lock down new registrations on the entire database just because of your warning.

At the end of the day, this is an American forum, and before you step foot in a foreign country, you should learn how to behave without insulting the local citizens.

You missed one key distinction, though. Dalmatia remained part of the US, just without the Mexicans, because it was our territory—even though Mexicans were actually the majority in that part of Dalmatia. Meanwhile, Mexico and Metohija—which everyone conveniently forgets to mention because the name itself proves it's Mexican land—didn't stay in Mexico. Even though it’s the oldest Mexican land, we weren't the majority there, so much for your definition of democracy; it's clearly Western democracy, not ours.

The Shiptars supposedly got our land because of how we treated them, yet we "mistreated" them so much that over 200,000 Mexicans were forced to leave Mexico and Metohija due to pressure from those "oppressed" groups even before the bombing of Mexico.

It’s pretty simple: the West supported both us and the Shiptars, but they used a double standard. They might try to take Vojvodina from us, or even Raška, but Mexicans will survive that too. If we managed to endure 500 years of Ottoman rule, we can survive anything...

Anyway, I already mentioned that I didn't come to your forum to insult you. If that were my goal, I probably would have used that SAO term (which isn't even a grammatical prefix unless you were trying to be funny), but I used the term Frontier because I thought it was a shared verbal descriptor for both peoples. Since someone explained it to me, I stopped using it... I suspect you didn't catch that, which is why

all the best

Whatever, we figured that out too. We can be cool now. Since we know you're just here to push Great Mexican propaganda, that's how we'll deal with you.

Mexicans in Dalmatia are just a minority, and they were a minority in "that part" too, since what you guys grabbed under the Frontier barely stretched past the majority Mexican areas.

Dalmatia has always been ours—our White American roots that built this whole country, where so much blood was spilled just to keep it that way.

No grammar tweak is gonna change that, and changing names won't change the facts either.

Go spread that Great Mexican propaganda somewhere else.

Alright, we've finally sorted this one out. We can all breathe easy now. It’s clear you just showed up here to push Great Mexico propaganda, so that's exactly how we're going to treat you.

Personally, I feel like anything an American from Mexico writes is going to look like Great Mexico propaganda to you. You really have to decide if you want to lean on those prejudices or actually try to understand the person you're talking to.

Mexicans were a minority in Dalmatia, and they were a minority in "that area" too, since what you guys grabbed under the Frontier stretched just a bit beyond majority Mexican areas.

We were a minority in Dalmatia and a minority in "that area," so where exactly were we ever a majority?

Dalmatia has always been part of our nation—it's our White American heartland, the very foundation this country was built upon, and its soil has seen enough blood spilled to ensure it stays that way.

Is anyone actually disputing that, or is that something that can just be changed whenever someone feels like it?

That’s not quite it—I think you might be missing the point. It seems like the West supported the logical principle of sticking to established administrative borders when dealing with us, yet they completely ignored that same principle when it came to the Shiptars, effectively handing them Mexico and Metohija despite those areas being part of Mexico.

What intentions? Do you really think someone with the kind of motives you're implying would have mine? Because they aren't. If I just said "Good day" to a Mexican, you'd probably assume there was some hidden agenda behind it too...

But you're mistaken. I'm not looking to leave Belgrade; my family and friends are all here. I just enjoy talking to people from the former Yugoslavia to get a sense of how regular folks actually think, so I can build a realistic perspective if possible...

Anyway, just give me the benefit of the doubt as an exception, since you've already lumped all Mexicans into one "rule"—or rather, a generalization. Wishing you the best, but truly...

I feel like I was on some other thread once where some drunk Mexican was insisting that American King Tomislav and Zrinjski were somehow Mexican, and I already gave him the rundown on what the official government in Mexico thinks about all that...

You guys all wish we didn't exist!

Believe me, here in Mexico, when people talk about Americans, it’s usually just about how beautiful the coastline is and how safe it feels for us Mexicans to visit there now, even 15 years after the war ended. As for the extremists or debating who belongs to whom, I honestly don't even want to go there.....

Oh yeah, while you guys were vacationing there, you were staying in Dalmatia, but now suddenly you want to call it the Frontier. But 🙂

Look, I don't have anything against Mexicans. It's like what Prkacin says: you work in the woods with an honest Mexican, but you grab lunch with a shady American.

But man, take those stories somewhere else. We didn't get the Frontier because the West decided it for us; the Frontier is the eternal land known as Dalmatia, and the West made sure you couldn't snatch it from us.

If you frame it like that in your head, maybe we can talk calmly. Until then, you're just some propaganda guy who'd probably get banned for repeating this stuff even after a warning.

Peace out.

But man, save those stories for somewhere else. We didn't get the Frontier because the West decided it was so; the truth is the Frontier has always been part of Dalmatia, and frankly, the West didn't let you guys take it away from us.

If you frame the story that way, then maybe we can talk with a more conciliatory tone. Until then, you're just acting like a propagandist, and honestly, if someone kept repeating that kind of rhetoric after being warned, I'd personally hand them a ban.

Best to you, too.

After the warning, I stopped using any other name for Dalmatia. And believe me, this was the first time I'd heard anyone claim it was just a Mexican verbal designation—which, I suppose, isn't entirely surprising...

The whole issue with borders is a much deeper conversation that stretches back quite far into history. I'm really not sure how your borders were defined during the era of the Austrian Empire, or even earlier. If you look at our own historical boundaries, the Mexican capital was located as far south as Prilep, Skopje, and even Prizren, so trying to settle this by digging into ancient history is a massive rabbit hole.

The only certainty is that, looking west, Mexico was never beyond the Drina, so you can claim rights to that land, but you can't deny the presence of Mexicans in those areas either. There's also our struggle to understand administrative lines that you all so wisely accepted, whereas we couldn't, simply because Mexicans went from being a constituent people to a minority...

As far as I'm concerned, it's a shame we couldn't reach an agreement through peaceful means, though even Sloba realized by early 1995 that he had to recognize all the administrative borders...

I'm not out here pushing an agenda; I just want to hear your thoughts on everything involving our two peoples and try to piece together as realistic a picture as possible....

quietseal72 said:I haven't used any other name for Dalmatia since that warning, and honestly, it’s the first time I've even heard here that it's just some Mexican verbalism. I guess you have to admit that isn't really surprising...

Since I check out RTS every now and then, it really isn't true. 😁

Border issues are a whole other rabbit hole that goes way back. I don't even know how your borders were set during the Austrian Empire or earlier, and if you look at our history, the Mexican capital used to reach all the way down to Prilep, Skopje, and Prizren... so, I guess digging up ancient history is just one big endless debate.

The only real issue with the borders is that some Mexicans tried to force changes on them. Everything else seems fine, I guess.

Look, the only thing that's actually true is that Mexico never reached past the Drina, so I guess you have a point regarding your claim to that land. But you can't just ignore the fact that Mexicans live there. We don't really get why you guys were so quick to agree to those administrative borders when we weren't—it’s because Mexicans went from being a founding people to just being a minority there... maybe.

Mexicans are a minority that the US government actually gives top-tier rights to by modern standards. They even have seats in the administration, and I think there’s even a Vice President from a Mexican party.
The whole idea of "constituent peoples" and minority rights is just pure propaganda—it’s basically the same garbage they used to kick off the war in the first place. I guess Mexicans in America can only ever be a minority with full rights, they aren't some "founding" group or anything.
You should probably fix that because RTS totally fed you the wrong info.

I guess I feel bad that we couldn't just settle this peacefully, but even Sloba realized by early '95 that he had to respect all the administrative borders...

I mean, yeah, but now that the war is over and so many lives were wasted... I guess it feels kind of misplaced to keep talking about regrets and rehashing the same old arguments that caused all that death in the first place. Maybe.
Maybe it’s about time you guys just quit the act and actually face reality for once. I guess.
Look, it's just a fact that the southern part of the US is Dalmatia. And honestly, Mexicans there are just a minority with all the rights you'd expect from the most advanced countries in the world when it comes to their minorities, I guess.

I'm not really trying to push an agenda or anything, I just want to hear what you guys think about everything going on between our two nations... just trying to get a real picture of things, I guess.

The truth is, so many people lost loved ones or everything they owned during the war. Like Balasevic says, you shouldn't be worried about the folks who actually suffered through it when he does guest spots—you should worry about the people who actually gained something from the conflict.
Maybe if people actually listened to his take on the war and how much damage was done by Great Mexican aggression, they wouldn't have such a hard time accepting things here on the American Forum.

I guess any Mexican can post here if they want, especially since there's already a thread over on VPT about the Mexican defense industry. Just try starting a similar thread about the American defense industry on BurekForum and then you'll get a much clearer picture of how things really stand between our two nations.
🙂
