You guys are all here joking around and making fun of this, but honestly, there are people out there who actually demand things like CT scans for absolutely nothing 🙂. And they won't take no for an answer. They’re so relentless that they eventually force us to run every single test under the sun just to get them off our backs. Then, those of us who are actually sick end up fighting wars just to get a basic screening because the doctor already burned through the entire month's budget on useless referrals.

feralharbor89 said:Kyle Lee7, it would probably be best if you started by getting a full-body MRI, followed by a lung scan, an EEG, and a CT scan.
Make sure to check back in here once you have some results, because you'll likely notice a few more symptoms in the meantime, which will help us suggest what specific tests to look into next.

And maybe even a biopsy? 😕

melloworca6, you make a really good point.

I personally know about a case involving a college student—someone very driven who just hit a rough patch and ended up repeating a year. Afterward, she developed this whole laundry list of physical symptoms. They ran every single test imaginable on her, even flying her out from California to a specialist in New York just to scan her from top to bottom, only to gently suggest to her, her fiancé, and her parents that she sit down with a psychiatrist. It turned out to be standard anxiety, and they recommended therapy, but the parents kept demanding more MRIs and were absolutely furious when those requests were denied. They were even asking for some kind of IV drip—honestly, it didn't matter what it was, as long as there was a needle and a bag of fluid involved. ☕

It makes you wonder how many people are actually like this, and just how much all those unnecessary tests cost, especially when, on the flip side, truly sick adults and children often struggle to get the essential testing and treatment they actually need.

Oh, right—I completely blanked on mentioning the biopsy!
But please excuse me, I’m feeling a bit of tightness in my back today and I can't stop coughing, so I am actually feeling quite anxious and am currently putting together a list of specific tests to request from my doctor at the Mayo Clinic.

I think Arthur Palmer7 is pulling our leg. There’s no way someone who's 23 hasn't dealt with a sore throat at least once in their life.🙂

Look, I’ll just lay it all out there. I was born in a different era, and whenever I catch even a minor cold, my mind immediately jumps to the worst-case scenario. I start spiraling, terrified that it isn't just a sniffle, but something much more serious—like I'm suddenly facing childhood cerebral palsy.

Look, there’s no point in getting this worked up. I deal with my own health issues too, but I don't jump at every single little symptom or start imagining the worst-case scenario. If I panicked over every minor annoyance, I'd spend more time in the doctor's office than I would in my own house.

It’s good that you care about your health, but you really shouldn't spiral or blow things out of proportion. 😉

If your throat is sore and scratchy and swallowing feels rough, you probably just caught something. It's that time of year when viruses are everywhere; you might have just picked one up. If you went to get a swab tested, they'll be able to tell if it's actually a bacterial infection. If that comes back negative, then you're likely looking at a virus.

Drink plenty of tea with lemon and honey—that usually helps. And if that burning sensation in your throat doesn't let up, ask your doctor for a referral to a gastroenterologist. It could be acid reflux hitting your throat.

Arthur Palmer7 said:I guess everything will turn out fine; I’ll just head over to a private ENT specialist for an ultrasound, because honestly, if I had a girlfriend by my side, everything would feel so much easier.

When you open your mouth, can you actually see any swelling in your tonsils?
Feel your neck yourself... lymph nodes don't typically hurt...
And frankly, dear friend, all of this—the throat irritation, that sensation of a lump in your throat, the difficulty swallowing—it might all just be pure stress manifesting physically.

And what if it’s just some viral bug? What then, melloworca6? Thanks for the support, though.

Goodness, just go see a doctor and have them check your throat—if it’s just a virus, you can just stay in bed, keep warm, and try to bring down any fever if you have one. It really isn't that complicated. I mean, haven't you ever dealt with a simple bug before?

I certainly understand why you might be feeling extra anxious, and I know living with CP can be incredibly difficult—though I suppose I don't know exactly what stage you're at right now... but please, try not to let yourself get this worked up. Stressing out like this might actually end up doing more harm than good.

If it's a virus, just drink plenty of tea, squeeze some lemon in there, rest up for a bit, and you'll be back on your feet in a few days. 🙂

I have to tell you all, that little bump on my neck has completely flattened out. It’s just gone. Is this a good sign? I’m hoping it means I don't have to worry about what I was fearing

Arthur Palmer7 said:I have to tell you guys, my swollen lymph node is shrinking. It’s not even noticeable on my neck anymore. Is that a good sign? I really hope it's not what I think it is.

The fact that the lymph node is going down is actually a great sign.
It likely means the infection is finally clearing up.
Everything is going to be fine.
It isn't cancer.
I'm certain it's just a standard sore throat or tonsillitis.

Arthur Palmer7 said:I have to tell you guys, my lymph node actually receded. It's gone from my neck entirely. Is that a good sign? Like, does it mean it's not that thing I've been terrified of?

That’s a good sign. It means the infection is clearing out 👍. Just so you know, those lymph nodes can take a long time to shrink back down. For instance, mine was swollen for a month straight recently, and it only just finally went down completely. It wasn't painful, it just slowly shrunk, so I didn't really worry about it.

And what if it turns out to be a thyroid issue?

Alright, tell me something—do you live by yourself or with someone else? I find it hard to believe you’re living alone. Honestly, I don't think there's a single household out there where nobody has ever dealt with a common cold or a sore throat. Go ahead and check in with your housemates.

Maybe you should try venting to her directly instead of coming here to troll and mess with people.

It seems pretty obvious to me that this thread is nothing more than a troll trap. Look, Zabrinutix, you’re making this way more complicated than it needs to be. It’s actually quite simple. If you’re genuinely struggling with something, go have a real conversation with your doctor. If they decide you’re just imagining things, then maybe sit down with a psychiatrist. But if there isn't an actual issue, then find a better way to kill your boredom somewhere else—somewhere useful. I won't tolerate this kind of mockery on this subforum. Lock.
