Honestly, you don't even need to waste your breath responding to those absolute trash posts. Seriously. Some people just can't write to save their lives. Just let them shout into the void.
And that's exactly how you flush all your hard work and time right down the drain.🧐
Whatever... birds of a feather flock together, I guess.

I really hope you’re kidding me. You actually just reminded me of Oscar Wilde—who, by the way, was pretty picky about who he hung out with. He used to say something like: "I choose my friends based on beauty, my acquaintances based on good intentions, and my enemies based on their wisdom. A person needs to be careful—maybe even overly cautious—when picking their inner circle."

Those words from Wilde are actually quite brilliant—I suppose you could say he really hit the nail on the head here. He captured the essence perfectly.

Personally, I think that besides being just another sign of general personal neglect, illiteracy is also fundamentally ugly.

Amy Nelson34 said:Reading through the posts on this forum, I keep running into so many grammatical errors that it’s honestly jarring—like a punch to the gut. It’s getting ridiculous!

Grammatical mistakes bother me too (I actually find myself editing my own posts several times 🙄 just to fix them)—I suppose it’s just a professional habit at this point 😳:.

However, I would NEVER dream of messing with someone else's writing style or trying to correct them. That is, unless we are clearly joking around. Even I occasionally write with certain regional quirks or slang patterns. But I don't support that kind of unsolicited correcting—it feels like you're trying to force someone into a new outfit that simply doesn't fit them or belong to them. 😉

And besides, how on earth would you even manage all that? It's obvious to me that you couldn't possibly keep up, but more importantly, how would you handle the backlash from other users if you started correcting them? They would inevitably attack you: "Why are you correcting them and not me? Why only here and never over there?" and so on.

Edit: Even if we had 1,001 versions of Ryan Long61 on this forum, we still wouldn't have enough people to successfully correct everyone's grammar on a regular basis. Just mentioning it in the chat is already too much 🤦

The proposal is stupid—I’m fully aware of that. It was just something I spat out in a fit of rage during that whole blowout over spelling errors. Besides, where would I even get with trying to correct illiterate idiots? Exactly where I am now.

I don't think there is anything wrong with having standards in life.
Personally, I don't mind being around someone who is uneducated or sloppy with their language, though that’s probably just because I don't consider myself to be particularly polished either.😁

If a post doesn't actually give me a reason to respond—whether it's due to poor grammar or just boring content—then I simply won't reply, but if I write something that provokes a reaction through its substance or its style, whether that reaction is positive or negative... well, hey, this is an internet forum!
You have the chance to take a shot at others, but you also have to be prepared to get hit back.

Being illiterate is ugly, it's unpleasant, and it carries a certain stench of intellectual neglect, but poor grammar alone isn't enough evidence for me to assume that an uneducated person is also physically unattractive, smelly, or a complete mess in their personal life.

What Ryan Long61 is saying just isn't practical in a forum setting, which is exactly what Samuel Morgan40 pointed out, though I suspect his intentions were good, aiming to teach people how to write more correctly, which isn't a bad goal, it's just technically impossible to enforce.

And as for people flocking together like birds in a flock or managing their time however they please... well, that's just how life works, and I don't see any harm in it whatsoever.🤷
Everyone is free to post whenever the mood strikes them, and equally free to stay silent when they aren't feeling inspired.🙂

I’ll keep this brief regarding these threads.

It's simple—implement a literacy test during forum registration. 😁

The simple fix? Just require a literacy test when someone signs up for the forum. 😁

If we did that, there would be maybe three people left on this board.🤣

And then, I suppose, people will just start bypassing the gates via direct invites because they won't be able to clear the "standard" registration hurdles.

And that would be the perfect excuse for having that ".us" suffix in the name, wouldn't it? 😳 ☕

Amy Nelson34 said:Look, the suggestion was stupid. I know that. It was just a heat-of-the-moment reaction because I was getting fed up with all the typos and bad grammar. Honestly, where does it get you, trying to fix the mistakes of people who clearly didn't finish middle school? Nowhere. Exactly where I am now.

What is actually wrong with you!!??

How can you even think it's okay to call people "idiots" just because they struggle with basic literacy!?

You poor thing.

Seriously, what's eating you lately?

We can take this to DMs if you need to vent (just try not to cry).

Jose Barrett said:What is even your problem!!??

How dare you go around calling potentially illiterate people "idiots"!?

I don't know if there is a person involved—or who it might be—who actually has a problem here, but your struggle to comprehend what was actually written is... well, it's pretty obvious.

Calling a specific group of people "illiterate idiots" doesn't mean you're labeling every "potentially illiterate" (sic!) person an idiot. If I were to say, "Marina, you are a stupid cow," I haven't just declared every cow on the planet to be stupid. Quite the opposite—maybe tomorrow I'll turn around and say, "Jacqueline, you are one smart cow."

Noooooo 😱

If I don't, I'll end up accidentally clicking on some brainless thread out of pure ignorance 😱

At least this way, I can spot the junk from the title and steer clear.

Personally, I don't mind hanging out with people who can't write for squat, but maybe that's just because I don't smell like a dumpster fire myself.😁

If a post doesn't make me want to reply—whether it's because it's illiterate or just garbage content—then I'm staying silent. But if I post something that triggers a reaction through my content or the way I write... well... hey... this is a forum!
You get the chance to take shots, but you also get hit back.

Bad grammar is ugly, it looks trashy, and it stinks; it basically screams that someone has totally given up on themselves. But just because someone writes like they've never seen an English textbook doesn't mean they're actually ugly, smelly, or a total wreck in real life.

What Ryan Long61 is saying just isn't doable on a forum like this. Like Samuel Morgan40 pointed out, it's a good intention—trying to teach people how to write better isn't a crime—but technically? It’s impossible.

And as for birds flocking together or people just popping in whenever they feel like it... that's just how it works. I don't see any problem with it.🤷
Everyone is free to post when they feel like it, and stay quiet when they don't.🙂

It's not like I'm trying to dictate which posts other users should answer and which ones they shouldn't.

I honestly believe that even "those who aren't great writers" can contribute something valuable to a discussion.

Sure, some random user over on the 'Home Improvement' subforum might not sound as sophisticated as Nicholas King, but they might give you killer advice on picking out flooring, siding, or laminate.

Some guy at Home Depot could drop an amazing recipe for cookies on the food board, and it really shouldn't matter if he misspells "milk," "sugar," or "cake."

Just imagine if the guys in the 'Music' subforum refused to talk to anyone who didn't play guitar or drums, treating them like some kind of nuisance polluting the threads with "stupid" messages because they don't know how many strings are on a Fender.

We could go on forever...

It's easy to say birds of a feather flock together, but we'll never know why a duck tries to pick a fight with a goose when the opportunity arises.😕
Maybe poultry isn't technically part of the bird family, but whatever, this is a forum. I can keep rambling until the mods kick me out to go take a break from posting messages full of typos and broken grammar.😁

That’s a pretty clever musical analogy—but, I have to say, it’s completely misapplied here.

It would be much more accurate to imagine an orchestra where the people who can't play a single note are standing there, stone-faced, trying to lecture the actual musicians that technical skill doesn't matter at all and that the only thing that counts is just making noise.

BTW, you're being incredibly malicious by twisting my words—nobody ever called anyone "an obnoxious nuisance polluting the threads with mindless comments." All I said was that people have every right to prefer certain company when they're looking for someone to jam with. ☕

Prefer whatever the hell you want. You've got plenty of options out there, but stop trying to pin malice on me just because we don't see eye-to-eye on this.
