My head has been driving me absolutely insane for a week now. I’ve checked everything—no lice, no nits, nothing like that. It just itches intensely in these specific spots. About a month ago, I dealt with some scalp inflammation, likely fungal, and my doctor prescribed a medicated shampoo because I had these crusty patches of flakes and pus everywhere. That cleared up after using the treatment, but now this itching is back. There’s no visible dandruff or discharge, and I’m not losing any hair, but my scalp is bright red, itching like crazy, and getting incredibly greasy again. 😢

Hey there! Just wanted to reach out because I’m actually dealing with the exact same thing... I get this awful itching and some little flakes too... plus my hair gets greasy so fast. I feel like I have to wash it every other day just to keep up. I was reading up on it online and it sounds like it might be seborrheic dermatitis... who knows, right?

Ugh, I’m dealing with the exact same thing... this itching is driving me absolutely insane.
Idk about you guys, but Head & Shoulders is the only thing actually working for me.

Maybe give some castor oil a shot. Just go ask someone about how it works for what you're dealing with... I think there's walnut oil out there too, so yeah, worth looking into that one as well.

Like, maybe find an energizing shampoo? Something with caffeine or whatever added in.

The scalp needs time to react, you know? It doesn't happen overnight.

So, I finally decided to give Head & shoulders a shot, but I went with the menthol version... figured the cooling sensation might actually help soothe my scalp a bit. We'll see how it goes, I guess...

if you were out under that brutal sun all day, maybe that's what did it to you

It could be an allergy. Or maybe that shampoo you're using just isn't working for your scalp anymore. If you recently went to a salon and had them wash your hair there, plenty of people run into issues with their specific products. Try rinsing with some chamomile tea for a few days. It might help.

I’ve been dealing with this exact same headache for about two years now. At first, dandruff was the main issue, but I managed to dial that back once I found some decent shampoos.
The only thing left is this damn itching. I’ve cycled through maybe five different brands, and it’s always the same story: my scalp feels great right after a wash, then a day or two later, I'm back to square one.

Does this mean I need to be washing my hair every single day, or am I looking at some underlying medical issue here?

Look, obviously you're gonna wash your hair every single day!
The real issue is the scalp—I’ve got dandruff popping up in three different spots and nothing seems to touch it...

The issue is actually my skin. I've got dandruff in three different spots and nothing seems to touch it...

Actually, that's not "normal." I read somewhere that washing twice a week is the recommendation...
God, this is exhausting. Honestly, I'm over it. Sometimes the itching is so bad I wonder how I haven't gone completely bald yet.

Man, I am seriously reaching my breaking point with this... sometimes the itching gets so bad that I honestly wonder if my hair is just going to fall out right then and there...

You should really grab that CeraVe shampoo from Ducray—it’s the Kelual DS one. Honestly, it worked wonders for me right away. I've always dealt with oily dandruff before, but I’ve never had it feel this itchy... and let me tell you, that kind of itching is just pure torture... 😲
It’s a bit pricier, sure—but honestly, it’s worth every penny... even if it does sting a little at the register. $30You can totally pair it with that Dalton shampoo from MuscleTech—it’s actually worth the price... $13You get quite a bit of it—it’s really mild, too—plus it doubles as a body wash. I don't want to jinx anything, but...
Once a week, you take one—then you move on to the next...
Look, just wash your hair twice a week—seriously, don't even think about doing it every day, or you're only going to make things worse... And whatever you do, stay away from putting oils on your scalp. Your issue is dandruff, and adding oil to the mix is just going to feed the problem...

Since I’m dealing with the exact same thing, I figured I’d weigh in. First things first: go see a dermatologist. Based on those symptoms you described, it sounds like seborrheic dermatitis, but you really need a professional opinion to be sure. The harsh truth is there isn't actually a "cure"—it's just something you manage. Personally, I stick to Vichy (the orange bottle), Selsun Blue, or Nizoral. These work for me as long as I wash my hair twice a week—basically once every four days. My doctor's advice was to rotate through one of those three shampoos every month, and that keeps the dandruff, oiliness, and itching completely at bay. I've been following that routine for four years now without a single itch. 🙂

Already saw a dermatologist. Big deal. He just told me to stick to mild shampoos. That was it.
The worst part is when I'm trying to sleep—the itching is unbearable. I think it's because I sweat during the night, since even a day or two ago while I was working and sweating, the itch was driving me crazy. 🤷
