The Smiths

Has anyone here actually sat down and watched this movie yet? It stars David Duchovny and Demi Moore, so you've definitely heard of them. The premise is basically about them and two younger people playing a family that moves into one of those perfect, picture-perfect American suburbs. Everyone there is super friendly—almost too friendly—because they’re all trying to get close to the new neighbors just to subtly pitch everything they wear, eat, drink, and own. After they throw a little get-together, everyone becomes obsessed with their lifestyle and wants exactly what they have... but, obviously, things aren't quite as idyllic as they seem on the surface. I won't spoil anything else, but personally, I thought it was pretty solid. I liked how it handled the moral dilemmas the protagonist faces. It’s essentially a drama with some comedic undertones, though based on the trailer, you might go in expecting a straight-up comedy.

Just some random thoughts... I kind of dig this whole "work-money-stuff" cycle. Like, you have to grind just so people can see you actually have something and prove you *can* afford what you want. At a certain point, what you actually want doesn't even matter anymore. Is this just the West being spiritually hollow, or am I overthinking things too much?

I really thought the concept had so much promise, but looking back, I just don't feel like they tapped into its full potential... They had all these great talking points—the marketing, the product launches, building up that hype, and having the Smiths acting like those neighbors whose lawn is always perfectly manicured—but they just didn't quite play it right. It’s such a shame...
Plus, that whole internal conflict the lead character goes through and everything that stems from it, I won't spoil it, but honestly, the movie might have actually been better if they hadn't 😬

Watched it. It was alright, I guess. Maybe a 5.5/10.

I'm with you there—it’s a brilliant premise, but the execution just wasn't quite dialed in.
They probably could have skipped the protagonist's moral dilemmas entirely, though without them, the story might have lacked that classic plot structure...

All in all, still an interesting watch.

I just finished watching it, and honestly, while the core concept is fantastic, I can’t help but feel like the execution could have been a bit more polished and refined... though I have to say, David is absolutely dreamy, and seeing Demi back on the big screen was such a treat...
all in all, it’s a pretty enjoyable watch.☕
