Buying a hard drive from the USA

Hey everyone

I’m not exactly an electrical expert, so I could use some help here.
I picked up a hard drive from the States, and it came with the American power supply and that specific American plug.

The adapter says this:
Input: 100-240 V, 50-60 Hz, 0.8 A
Output: 12 V, 2 A

What do I actually need to buy to get this thing running?

It doesn't really matter, because the adapter covers the whole world. It handles the US 100-120V and the European Union 230V easily since the range goes from 100-240V.
And isn't the frequency in Europe 50Hz, just like it is here in the States?

The only thing you might actually need is a plug converter.

I'm not entirely sure which specific one you have for your hard drive..

I tried that extension you suggested, but when I plug the adapter into the wall, it makes this weird buzzing sound if I listen closely—is that even normal? Plus, the hard drive won't even spin up when I connect it.

Maybe the drive is just dead?

Why not pull it out of the case and try plugging it directly into the motherboard via SATA or IDE?

It's brand new, hopefully nobody messed with it yet. Plus, it’s still got that warranty sticker on it, so I'm definitely not touching it.
