Can someone please help me out? I just picked up some new ink for this printer and everything was fine at first—it recognizes the black, cyan, and yellow just fine—but the magenta is sitting at zero. It says it can't be detected...

What's my move here?

Is there actually a way to fix this, or am I stuck?
I took it to a local repair shop a few days ago and all five cartridges were full, then suddenly the light starts flashing red like the magenta is empty...

I don't even know what to say—just asking the admins for some patience if there's already a thread for this. I've got a 500MB USB drive and searching this forum is honestly such a massive headache...

Thanks in advance!

That's just how HP works.

You burn through half the ink and then you're stuck hunting for a replacement....

So you swap it out, pop in a new one, and then two days later, boom—it happens again....

Look, your options are simple: either grab a reset tool... reset that half-empty cartridge... and shove it back in....

Or, you can go over to rustysurfer79's shop and pick this up...

And if you do that, you won't have to deal with this headache ever again....

Seriously, get yourself something from this list ASAP...

I've got at least 30 of these half-dead cartridges sitting in my junk drawer right now....

I need a reset tool myself... urgently...

p.s. I'm not even sure if what rustysurfer79 is selling fits your specific model...

Just give them a call and let them walk you through it...

Later...

Alright... I'm a little lost here 😁—I'll be the first to admit I'm a total newbie when it comes to printers...

So, I just picked up a full set of new inks—cyan, yellow, magenta, black, the whole works—and all the part numbers match my HP Stylus C66 perfectly. But for some reason, the machine just won't recognize the magenta in the third slot, even though the tank is totally full...

Is it possible the chip just fried or something?

Also, how much do those resetters actually run you, and what do they even do? Is it worth the money...

Look, you gotta make a call here... either you go the route of buying third-party cartridges... and then deal with the headache of unblocking them with a resetter whenever they lock you out... you can find those generic ones for like $6.75 over in Chicago if you're hanging around
there.

Or, you just install one of these systems... where you basically just refill the ink from a bottle... kind of like pouring soda into a flask...

http://rustysurfer79.com/A_PROIZVODI/A_TAN...pson_TRANS.htm

The whole setup will run you about $133 bucks...

As for the resetter, I think you can grab one in Tennessee 31 miles... maybe around $67... I think.

Personally, I'm hunting down a resetter right now because I’ve got a massive stash of cheap cartridges just sitting here waiting to be unlocked...

So, if you haven't dumped a ton of cash into this yet, honestly? Just get that kit from rustysurfer79... it'll save you a huge amount of stress for at least 5 or 6 months...

Later... and make sure you check out that other thread too... ☕

So, does this mean if I just grab ten different third-party cartridges, the printer won't actually realize what's inside?

Is there some kind of chip in there just playing tricks on me or something?

I mean, I’m not about to drop $133 on ink or $67 just to reset the thing... at that point, I might as well just buy a brand new printer for like $100—I'm no genius, but I can do the math...

No... you buy the magenta... you load it... it works... then two days later it’s screaming for black...

You grab the black... you pop it in... two days later it wants yellow...

You get the yellow... five days later it's begging for red... and it just goes on forever...

And you haven't even used anything! It's all still half full...

Every single one of these printers nowadays comes with some kind of built-in protection...

If you go with a Canon, they put chips on the original cartridges that you actually have to rip off and stick onto the cheap replacements... otherwise, the thing won't even recognize them...

The only way out is those older models... or maybe some of the simpler HP units... they actually let you use the cheap third-party stuff...

Look, when you buy a printer, you should be asking one question first: how much do the cartridges cost and can I actually find them? You want something where you aren't constantly messing around with color profiles and settings...

But those don't really exist anymore. Most of those were just basic little machines without scanners or copiers... simple, low-end stuff...

The second you try to get an all-in-one machine that does everything... that's when the headaches start...

The resetter for the C66 runs about $67
and
those self-resetting cartridges with the ink for the C66 go for $50
plus you can test them out right there in the store.

Next time you're buying cheap third-party stuff, head to the shop with your printer and try them out on the spot. If they kick you and your printer out the door, maybe rethink your life choices.

Make sense?

I'm not even bummed about buying that resetter—I'll just flip it to someone else for $67. It’s clearly an issue with the printer itself rather than the ink... at least, that's my guess...
