Can I get some help from nurses or medical techs who actually have access to the official protocols or documentation on this?

So, here's the deal—when you're disposing of used syringes and needles, do they go into separate sharps containers, or do you just pop the cap back on the needle and toss everything together into one single bin?

Please, I really need an answer ASAP!!

Thanks

Honestly, it doesn't even matter. It all ends up in those puncture-proof plastic sharps containers that get sealed shut and incinerated anyway. My advice? Don't bother putting the cap back on the needle. It’s way too easy to accidentally poke yourself if you're tired and losing focus. That's what I was always told. As for finding an official manual, I'm not sure if there's even a specific regulation that spells out exactly how the needles themselves are tossed.

Wait, isn't that actually covered by those medical waste disposal regulations or whatever?

Look, it's definitely floating around somewhere online. You just have to go hunt it down.

Don't try to pop the cap back onto the needle. It’s just asking for an accidental stick, especially if you're running on fumes and your focus starts slipping. At least, that's what I was told. As for official guidelines, I'm not even sure if there's a specific regulation covering this, and if there is, I doubt it goes into detail about the exact mechanics of disposing of needles.

That's the truth...👍

I suspect those official documents don't get super granular about how you toss the needles, mainly because they all go right into the container regardless, so it feels like a moot point...🤷
