Because the admins decided it that way. Every site has its own set of rules. I guess you probably didn't read them before signing up for Reddit:

* ban you from Reddit (temporarily or permanently)
* delete your user account (this isn't done upon user request!)

It’s the same old story: people lose their minds when they think they’re anonymous. They start typing out every dark, twisted thought they've ever had, thinking they're invisible behind a screen. But once they get caught? It's a total disaster. They've gone ahead and spilled everything—confessing to cheating on their wives, disrespecting their bosses, or being creeps on the subway. Once that genie is out of the bottle, there's no going back.

I should probably go check if I mentioned which girl I was out with last night—because if my girlfriend, who thinks she's the only one, finds out, I might end up with just one woman instead of two. 🤣 (Obviously, I'm kidding, I don't do that kind of stuff 😍 ...but hey, you never know... maybe I do 😁 )

Alright. I've decided I want to delete my profile. It isn't really about any specific reason—I just feel like I don't need to be here anymore. But what now? I can't change my username, at least not individually, and I can't even delete the account myself. Great.
So, I was wondering if anyone knows exactly what needs to happen before the admins finally get around to deleting me? Thanks.

I wouldn't go quite that far, honestly. No matter what you try, your profile is going to stick around. The only thing you can actually land yourself is a permanent ban...😉

Maybe don't push it too far toward a permanent ban; I guess changing your username might actually help.

I couldn't quite find the perfect thread for what I’m looking for, so I figured I’d just bring my question here.
I'm curious about whether there are any options for temporarily deactivating an account. To be clear, I’m not talking about getting banned or facing some kind of disciplinary suspension; I’m strictly looking for a way to make my profile inactive for a while. I have my own personal reasons for wanting this, and if such a helpful feature exists, I'd love to take advantage of it.

But what does an "active profile" even mean to you? 😕
If you aren't logging in, your profile isn't active—it's pretty simple math, right? What else would it be? 🤷
If you're mostly worried about people blowing up your inbox with private messages while you're gone, you can just turn off incoming messages from the Prime Minister's Office settings, and then just slap a note in your signature letting everyone know you're out of commission for a while. 🙂
