As far as video playback goes, VLC Media Player works just fine.
How’s Windows Media Player 12 treating you on Windows 7?

@slyrider20 - Are you running into the same issues with HD and Blu-ray movies?
If you need better performance, there are other codec packs out there, like CoreAVC.
If you're going to grab one, I'd suggest getting it via a torrent; otherwise, you'll probably struggle to find an installation key.

Look, here’s my foolproof routine—I strip out every single codec I have, absolutely everything... then I wipe all my players (like KM Player or VLC Media Player) and give the whole machine a good reboot. After that, I install ONLY VLC Media Player along with its specific codecs, leaving things like the K-Lite Codec Pack completely out of the equation. Just the player and its native stuff... and wouldn't you know it? The picture comes back perfectly fine!

For those specific formats, you really ought to look into different codec packs, like CoreAVC.
If you decide to grab one, I’d suggest hunting it down via a torrent site, because if you try to go through official channels, you’ll likely end up stuck without an installation key anyway.

Well, I just sat here and tested the video on Windows Media Player, and frankly, the picture looks terrible in full-screen mode. It seems like the m2v player is the only thing keeping the image somewhat decent when I expand the window. 😕 Personally, I would stick with it since it works, but the software is riddled with these incredibly irritating little glitches—errors, I suppose?—that drive me absolutely mad. Why is it that even our most preferred programs insist on being such a massive headache? 🙂

Does anyone happen to know how to adjust subtitle positioning in the m2v player? (In VLC Media Player, you just hit Shift plus the left or right arrow keys)

No, I never bother watching movies on physical DVDs; I just download AVI files around 700 MB.

Harold Taylor6, I really don't have the patience to uninstall everything and start over right now, especially since I'm not even certain that doing so will actually solve anything...

Are you saying you think there's an actual bug with CoreAVC? I actually ended up downloading it myself recently because the K-Lite Codec Pack wasn't cutting it when I was trying to play some brrip movies. Honestly, it seems to be a lot lighter on my RAM than what I was using before, so it works fine for me.

Sometimes just doing a clean reinstall of the codec can fix things too.🙂

No, that's not it at all; I'm talking about that m2v player which is absolute garbage, yet somehow remains useful simply because it’s the only thing that actually renders the picture correctly for me.
