If I swallow 2-3 cloves of garlic, I start getting gas and have pretty significant bowel movements within 24 hours. Is using it this way for a "gut cleanse" actually okay? What’s the real breakdown on the pros versus the cons here?
I’ve been reading about garlic being a natural antibiotic—so I guess I'm wondering if it also wipes out the good bacteria in your gut, or if it just targets the bad stuff.

While everyone loves to claim garlic is some kind of miracle natural antibiotic, my gut tells me there’s a limit to how much one should consume. If you go overboard, aren't you just asking for intestinal distress? At the end of the day, those pungent, aggressive compounds can be incredibly harsh on your digestive tract. That’s just my take on it, anyway. I can't say for sure, but I have my doubts.😉

You're swallowing two or three cloves of garlic at once??? 😲😲😲 🤮

Yeah. I don't see any issue with it. There's no smell—garlic only really starts acting up once it hits deeper into the digestive tract. You might get some short bursts of gas after about 24 hours, and it'll probably clear things out, too. At least, that’s how it works for me. After that, nothing. I guess if you were doing this constantly, you'd probably smell like garlic all the time, but doing it occasionally? No scent at all.

So, what kind of side effects am I actually looking at here? I haven't run into any problems so far.

If someone was slamming this stuff daily, they’d probably stink of garlic constantly, but doing it occasionally? No scent at all.

Props to you. Personally, I can't stand garlic or cinnamon... not even a trace!

I love it fresh—it’s basically my go-to seasoning. I can eat quite a bit of it, whether it's tossed into a tomato soup or paired with some clams...
The only downside is the garlic breath. I usually avoid it if I have plans to be around people right after eating.
