It would be a great addition if we could have sections for:

Debates

A dedicated space to discuss current events—you know, things from the news or even just local TV...

A section for DeviantArt style work—digital art made in Photoshop or similar software where we could host occasional contests...

I’m more than happy to draft up some detailed rules and explanations for all of this...

Let me know if anyone else thinks these would be worth implementing.

Aren't these already debates? Besides, there's already way too much going on here every single day, and now you want to drag in even more? Everything you listed is pretty much already here. Maybe try actually participating in the discussions first before jumping over to the Suggestions board...

They actually tried this over in the Religion section.

In a few months, exactly one (let me be clear: one) person actually signed up for a debate... nothing else happened.

You already have subforums for that. They're called Television and Other Media.

There's a subforum for that too. It's called Creative Chaos.

I think we had something pretty similar back in the day. There were these web design competitions run by a former moderator of that subforum, Matt. But once Matt moved on, those contests basically vanished too...

Actually, I’ve got some rules written down myself—a buddy and I put them together for another forum where I used to run contests for PS (stuff like photo manipulation, retouching, general design, etc.). Sadly, the owner of that site just totally lost it, so the whole forum went belly up...

Maybe check out Behance or something similar; they have plenty of graphic design challenges there. Honestly, they mostly focus on graphics and a bit of web design anyway...

I actually think this is a pretty solid idea for photoshop
