Three potential issues with my monitor

So, folks, ever since I picked up this new Dell UltraSharp LCD, I've been dealing with nothing but headaches. The first issue is this: Every so often while I'm browsing the web or watching something on YouTube, the screen just goes black and throws that dreaded error message at me: Not optimum mode, recommended mode SXGA 1280 x1024 60 Hz. Even though I’m running that exact resolution, my refresh rate was set to 75 Hz, so I dropped it to 60 Hz, but honestly, that seems to make the problem even more frequent... 😕 It doesn't happen all the time, but it feels like it happens virtually every single time I try to play a game. Then there's the second issue: Sometimes the screen just blacks out entirely and the power light starts blinking incessantly. In both scenarios, I'm forced to hard reboot the machine, and when I asked the guys at the local tech shop, they insisted it's my graphics card acting up. Thirdly... whenever I try to install Stalker: Clear Sky, the whole computer just dies—it shuts down completely and won't even allow a restart until I physically pull the plug from the wall, pop it back in, and wait for it to boot itself up. It’s probably your graphics card giving you trouble. I guess it depends on what kind of GPU you're actually running. 🙂

The Dell UltraSharp 19" LCD Monitor—with its 8ms response time, 700:1 contrast ratio, and SXGA 1280 x1024 resolution—is certainly not the culprit here, so I wouldn't waste your time hunting for faults within the display itself.
The NVIDIA GeForce FX 5900 Ultra is quite an aging card by today's standards, and it is almost certainly where your issues originate; you might attempt to overclock it, though I suspect you won't see any meaningful gains, so your best bet is simply to head out and shop for something more modern.

That NVIDIA GeForce FX 5900 Ultra is pretty dated! It’s almost certainly the card causing the issue. You could try overclocking, but you won't get much out of it; honestly, it might be time to head to the store and pick up something newer.
