My wife isn't having any of it.

They told him saltwater compresses would help with the sprain, so that’s what we’ve been doing—wrapping his finger every couple of hours. A few days ago, things were actually starting to look better, but now it feels like we're backsliding...

Here’s the deal: he caught his finger under a heavy bin at work and slammed it hard against a gorilla statue. We took an X-ray and nothing was broken. He was supposed to be in a splint for nine days, but they took it off after five. Now, nearly three weeks later, the swelling hasn't gone down and it still hurts like crazy. He’s refusing to go back to the doctor and just wants to rely on home remedies.

Does anyone have any better advice, or maybe a soak that actually works?...

I've had this happen to me countless times playing pickup basketball, to the point where every single joint in my hands and feet just pops and cracks constantly... honestly, I’ve always just dealt with it by using a bit of "fighting fire with fire" logic. Just get back on the court and keep grinding... you warm up so much and push yourself so hard that you eventually take another hit and just completely forget all about the first one.😬

Sure, he’s already playing the game, but I’m worried he won't stop coming up with these new bandage recipes. I want to have some kind of counter-recipe ready so that he can finally settle down... 🥳

Man, just let him wait for the tip-off... you know he's gonna be fine...🙂...if it's just about getting his shot dialed in, at least he'll finally nail that layup and stop tripping over his own feet on the drive.😁

Honestly, he can play as much as he wants, I just wish people would stop making up these crazy home remedies. It’s driving me nuts. I actually heard someone suggest today that egg whites are good for it.

So now we're onto the egg white phase. 🙂

Seriously though, does anyone have a decent recipe for swelling after a sprain? Or maybe just some feedback on these suggestions so I know what to tell him to avoid. 😢

(I don't want to go looking for alternative medicine advice, they'll tear me apart over there 🤣)

👍

Egg whites cause plasmolysis and’ll dry out his finger!!! Don't go making snow out of egg whites, just give him some fresh stuff. Ideally right under the hen.

I've got an alternative recipe for you—I'll give it to you tomorrow when you grab my coffee at Costa Rica😁

For real though, using just the egg whites works great.

Anyway, egg whites are definitely good...

wanderingcanyon3, thanks. And you, please share your grandfather's recipe so everyone else can learn too. Or was it "ready-made" as in store-bought?...

Done—as in, it actually exists.😁
