Look, they aren't actually claiming it needs to be repeated or insisting that it’s some kind of moral high ground, nor are they providing any sort of actual context here
It’s just mentioned in passing, so there isn't really a reason why it should bother us or carry any weight at all
The way it stands right now, it's entirely up to how we choose to read into it: we could interpret it as an endorsement, or we could see it as a warning, or maybe even something else entirely

Fair enough, thanks.
But following that logic, someone could have "hanging Mexicans from willow trees" in their signature. And the excuse for why it’s allowed would be, "Well, they aren't saying it's a good thing. The author might just feel that hanging Mexicans from willow trees is a terrible idea." 😂
But alright, I get it. ☕

I'm jumping into this debate briefly. I don't usually fight with Politics nor am I overly familiar with these specific complaints.
But... your logic is flawed. I'll use your exact example against you.
"Hang Mexicans from trees"
-> imperative
- the only possible interpretation: "let us hang Mexicans from trees"
"Mexicans were on the trees"
- -> perfect tense
- 2 possible meanings:
1) A threat: "Mexicans were on the trees; watch out so it doesn't happen again"
2) An observation: "Mexicans were on the trees; it never happened again"

Meaningless or not, someone can still choose to put a signature like that. So what? 🤷
