Post-wisdom tooth surgery: Is this hematoma normal?

Has anyone else dealt with a hematoma popping up a couple of months after wisdom tooth surgery? Like, seriously, 2 or 3 months down the line?

I can feel this weird lump right next to—well, just below—the outside of my jaw. It feels like a hematoma or some kind of hard knot, and man, does it hurt when I touch it... Is it even possible for something to get inflamed or infected this long after the actual procedure??

I didn't have any issues at all after my wisdom teeth came out... so this feels a bit weird to me—is it actually normal for it to be right where the tooth used to be?

It’s not even like that, man. You know when you get your wisdom teeth pulled and then you end up with this weird swelling? It’s not even right where the tooth was, either—it’s lower down, creeping toward your jawline. That’s exactly what happened to me. I’ve got this massive lump forming right there now. 😢

So, my second wisdom tooth is starting to push through now. I'm 18. The first one popped up about two years ago around this time. Honestly, it hasn't been a big deal—no real pain or anything, except for that one time it got snagged while I was eating. I was having some steak and ended up scraping it against a piece of crusty bread. Not exactly a fun experience.
I have a friend who had to deal with a nasty hematoma after her procedure. It took about a week of recovery, but things finally settled down and she’s doing fine now.

Ugh, tell me about it! I dealt with this exact same thing—had a massive hematoma hanging around for like two weeks before it finally calmed down and just... vanished. Everything seemed totally fine, right? But now, it’s been two months since my surgery and suddenly everything is flaring up again! It feels all inflamed and swollen, almost like that original hematoma is making a comeback out of nowhere. Is that even possible?? Like, is it actually forming again or what am I looking at here? That's what I'm trying to figure out...

Why not just go see an orthodontist?

I actually had a wisdom tooth pulled just the other day, and right before the procedure, I noticed this weird little lump under my tooth, heading down toward my jawline. My dentist assured me it would clear up once the tooth was out, explaining it was just caused by some inflammation. Well, things got a bit swollen immediately after the extraction, but thankfully that bump finally vanished once I finished a course of antibiotics. Based on what happened to me, I’m guessing you’re probably dealing with some kind of infection too.
