Moulin Rouge! by Baz Luhrmann

I haven't quite finished watching it yet... I just can't seem to force myself to get through it...

Watched the movie from the front row and walked away with a stiff neck as a souvenir.
Felt like I was at a tennis match: whiplash after whiplash.

But I did pick up a few facts most people out there aren't even aware of... luckily I happened to be watching The Great Gatsby by Baz Luhrmann during the 200th anniversary of its origin story... and honestly, that’s still the reality today. A public apology to a stolen generation is basically just a dead phrase on some piece of paper; the mental segregation is still alive and well, nothing has actually changed.
The former colonizers are just the modern-day patrons and the bosses of the whole operation.
By shining a light on just one single moment in history, the director pulled it off... though I definitely see why people say trying to cram all that heavy subject matter into a three-hour runtime is a massive stretch.
Maybe an omnibus approach using "Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow" would’ve worked better as a beautifully detailed framework for this flick.

Still worth a watch because it still hits you right in the gut.

I just finished watching the movie, and overall, it was solid... though there were definitely moments where it leaned a bit too hard into the melodrama, making things feel slightly forced. That said, Nicole Kidman’s performance was truly stellar; I wouldn't say I'm typically her biggest fan, but she really blew me away here.👍

Honestly, folks, this movie feels a lot like My Way or the Highway—it’s truly beautiful, but it could have easily cut to black halfway through. 😁

Honestly, this movie was just painfully tedious and dragged on way too long given how little actually happens in the plot.

I feel like I wasted my life sitting through this.

The entire thing is just one endless cycle of people breaking up and hugging, then meeting up and hugging again—it’s constant. There wasn't a single scene in the whole damn movie that actually hit me emotionally.
🤮And don't even get me started on that kid; his acting was absolutely pathetic.

The movie basically dies halfway through. Or maybe it just suffers a massive stroke? And then—as if Bog himself decided to grant it a second chance at life—it just keeps going, fully embracing all those "stroke" consequences. I honestly think they rushed through the first half and then, since they were already there, just decided to mess around.

I can't deal with how much Nicole Kidman constantly does that intense staring thing... 🙄

It’s like she totally invented that look back in "Moulin Rouge"... honestly, I bet Baz told her, "Hey, maybe try gazing into the distance a bit... you know, like you did in that other movie..."

And wouldn't you know it, Baz was behind the camera for "Moulin Rouge" too... 🙏

So, I guess Baz, the staring, and Nicole Kidman—they all just kind of come as a package deal... 😁

It’s an average film. Not exactly terrible, but nothing to write home about—it just doesn't stand out. Visually, it's quite striking; there are some truly stunning vistas... the scenery is gorgeous. And that little N/A is absolutely breathtaking 🙂

Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman are decent enough actors—I guess—but as for chemistry? There is zero spark between them. Honestly, he was much better in X-Men 😍

Even at the Oscars?
Man, he totally blew me away. The guy is just incredibly versatile, seriously... respect where it's due.

I can't remember the last time I sat through a movie this bad. Truly awful.

Watch out for Baz Luhrmann’s directing style. The movie holds together reasonably well until about the halfway mark—then it completely devolves into something like Titanic by James Cameron. It's honestly surprising how cliché-ridden the whole thing is.
