The Lord of the Rings - extended version

Does anyone know if there's a place near Washington, D.C. where I can pick up this specific version of the movie?
(I'm looking for the set that includes all three parts!)

I even attached a photo so you guys can see exactly what I'm hunting for...

Picked up The Lord of the Rings - extended version back in the USA maybe four or five years ago. Since then, I’ve gone back to watch them every once in a while, but strictly and exclusively the extended versions. I honestly can't stand—and don't even have the patience for—the theatrical cuts anymore. The more detail you get, the better everything is explained, and the logic actually makes sense. I could go on all day.

Part one—The Fellowship of the Ring—is an extra 30 minutes longer.
Part two—Two Towers—runs about 42 minutes longer.
Part three—The Return of the king—is an additional 48 minutes.

That adds up to exactly 120 minutes, or two full hours of extra footage. It’s basically like having an entire fourth movie tucked in there.

And the best part? You can't even tell where they tacked stuff in compared to the theater versions. The integration is masterclass level, just like the rest of the trilogy. All that extra footage was shot with the same top-tier quality as the original scenes. It looks seamless.
If you're a fan of this series, you seriously need to grab the extended versions of all three movies—the whole set.

Word on the street is they might finally drop the Blu-ray extended version later this year.

I believe they have it at Amazon—they even carry that edition with the Gollum figurine.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I saw it at Best Buy too. If they don't have it on the shelf right now, just ask them to order it in 😉 my brain is fried, and honestly, I've watched those movie versions so many times that they feel way too short to me now.😍

No—it's Two Towers. You’ve got the LOTR set here, though I assume it's not the American translation.

I’ve got The Lord of the Rings - extended version, and honestly, it runs about four hours. It’s a bit of a marathon if you try to power through it in one sitting.
But hey, those extra scenes are definitely worth it—they really flesh things out and make the whole movie feel even more complete.🙂

Maybe Gandalf is heading toward Mordor? I see a gap there, which is probably where he managed to track them down.

That third point about the Undead army is pretty much spot on.

They stuffed in a lot of short scenes that might not even be essential to the plot, but they definitely paint a more complete picture than the theatrical cuts. For me, the Two Towers and The Return of the King really stand out; there are plenty of Eowyn-Aragorn moments, and then the Faramir-Eowyn bits at the end that you just don't see in the cinema versions. In the theater cut, suddenly at the coronation—bam—she’s healed and holding hands with Faramir. Personally, I think the extended version handles that transition so much better. It's probably a minor detail, but being a woman, these little love triangles and messy dynamics always catch my eye.🤣🤣

My first run-in with the rings was specifically through this extended version... and honestly, it just killed me with boredom—way too many hurdles, way too slow—it totally drained my will to keep watching. I actually feel like there shouldn't be more than two movies, maybe something like three hours each, just to keep the pacing from dragging so much.

If anyone needs it, the whole set is about 100GB, so based on current hard drive prices, that's roughly $17
worth of space.

Honestly, don't bother wasting your energy searching local shops... everything was snapped up ages ago!

Your absolute best bet—and this is exactly what I ended up doing myself—is to just order from Amazon UK...

The entire box set, shipping and all, comes out to about $83... plus, you won't even have to worry about customs fees, and the edition is just absolutely stunning. 🙂

I think those are pretty much the only ones left with the proper English tracks.

Oh, totally! It’s definitely possible that More Comics still has a few of those old copies tucked away on a shelf somewhere, but if you really do the math—I mean, 95 times 3... goodness—those editions are just looking pretty desperate at this point! 😢

If I recall correctly, that’s the same edition silentcanyon58 linked. I have a copy myself. It lacks the local translation, but it's still a stunning piece of work.
