Sweet, thanks. So I'm looking for the 4670 or 4650, just making sure they have DDR3... I saw a few of those specific models over at Best Buy. Gonna double-check so I don't accidentally grab some ancient DDR2 relic, and I'm definitely passing on anything with only 1GB if the price is already that low. :-)

Does anyone have recommendations for an NVIDIA GeForce card? I see a ton of them available at Best Buy, but I’m having a hard time deciding which one to pull the trigger on.

I don't really need a flagship model; I was thinking this Gigabyte unit might actually get the job done quite well for my needs.

http://cure09.cu.funpic.de/uploaded/konfa55.jpg I’ve already put most of the rig together here—take a look—but obviously, I'll be swapping out the old 4850 for an NVIDIA GeForce instead.

I’m already set with a monitor, an Apple iPad, so I’m wondering if that setup will pair well with the NVIDIA GeForce, and if there are any known issues regarding cooling or fan speeds with this specific card...

Also, do you think the NVIDIA GeForce will be able to handle GTA 4 on max settings?

I don't need a high-end flagship; I think this one from Gigabyte would do the job just fine.

By the way, I've already put together the PC build—take a look here: http://cure09.cu.funpic.de/uploaded/konfa55.jpg though naturally, I'll be swapping out the 4850 for a GTX 260.

I already own a monitor—a Samsung Galaxy Tab—so I want to know if it will work well with the GTX 260 and whether there are any issues regarding cooling or fan speed.

Also, will the GTX 260 be able to run Grand Theft Auto IV on max settings?

I have already given you my answer. Just get the Gigabyte card. It will be perfectly compatible with both the monitor and the build. It features a decent dual-slot cooler and isn't overly loud. As for Grand Theft Auto IV, nobody can give you a definitive answer until you actually test it yourself.

hey everyone
so i was thinking about picking up some dirt cheap GPU, maybe something like this
what's the verdict on this card? honestly, the only reason i'm looking at such bottom-of-the-barrel stuff is because the rest of my sister's PC is a joke—it's running a Celeron at 3ghz with a measly 1GB of DDR2 RAM. there's really no point in buying anything better than this, right? besides, all i really need it for is playing 🙂 Medieval II: Total War so i can actually run battles without everything turning into a slideshow. and let's get one thing straight: i know damn well i'll be playing on low settings most of the time🙂
thanks in advance

EDIT: forgot to mention i've got some random no-name 300W power supply and a PCI-E splitter

For that kind of money, you aren't going to find anything better..

I honestly think grabbing that 2600XT DDR3 with 256MB for $100 over at unknown would actually be the much smarter way to go...

Yeah, looks a hell of a lot better 🙂. One more thing though—could the power supply be screwing things up since it’s pretty weak? Plus, it's some off-brand junk

Of course it could technically work, though I honestly don't think it'll be necessary... Since the XT doesn't require any extra power cables and its total power draw stays under 50W, we should be just fine!

wiredmarlin5 said:Sure, it could happen, but I wouldn't bet on it. The XT doesn't need an extra power connector, and the card's draw stays under 50W anyway.

So yeah, I figure everything should be fine.
thanks for all the input👍

wiredmarlin5 said:Honestly, you won't find anything $117 decent. Your only real bet is hunting down some used gear—maybe an 7800GS or a 7600GT... those usually run around $300-$117. 😉

☕ Look, I was running a 7600GT myself until about six months ago, and let me tell you, it was worth every single cent... absolute bang for your buck. Nowadays, I’ve moved up to a dual 8800GT setup, but frankly? I’m not even feeling it—I haven't noticed any real difference compared to just running one or two cards... whereas back when I had that 7600GT in SLI mode, my performance shot up by a massive 80%!

Alright, I’m curious to see what you all think about this specific graphics card

It really depends
on what you're actually planning to do with it, and more importantly, what kind of screen resolution you're aiming for? 🙂

1680x1050

Mainly CAD software and gaming. I'm honestly just looking for some honest feedback on that specific graphics card...

It's great for basic tasks... you're basically running on FireGL here.
But you're going to take a massive hit in gaming performance.

If you take a 2600XT and swap in some NVIDIA Quadro drivers, you basically end up with a V5600, which carries a much higher price tag than you'd expect.
http://www.nabava.net/trazilica.php?...+v5600&x=0&y=0
It’s an absolute powerhouse when it comes to CAD work,
but if you’re looking to run modern games, it’s really not quite what you want. 🙂

It’s a beast for CAD work
but don't expect much when it comes to gaming🙂
