Gerald Roberts7 said:Are you actually dense, or just pretending? What does nationality have to do with translating things into American English? If you're going to brag about your "mastery" of the language, try finding a .txt file and doing a decent job translating it yourself. We’re in trouble if most Americans are as clueless as you. Unbelievable. 😲

I highly doubt you were out there fighting for the country; you probably weren't even born yet.

What a piece of work. 🙏

Listen, nobody is bringing up nationality here. The issue is the availability of American translations in software and in general. Send me whatever you want and I'll translate it for you! absolute monkey

copperseal24 said:I mean, props to you for putting in the work, but let’s be real—not everyone is a tech wizard when it comes to setting up Windows. Honestly, I think you wasted your breath here because anyone who can navigate an English-language website can figure out how to install an OS.

Are you actually kidding me? lol... what you saw was just some cracked version of Windows... maybe do a little reading once in a while and you'll catch on. And yeah, fine, you're right about those pro-level programs. I'm with you there. But man, that's just how things work around here in the States... people take shortcuts.

copperseal24 said:Are you lacking common sense or just having vision problems? I'm not talking about watching DivX movies—hardly anyone does that anymore. I mean actual software like AutoCAD and CorelDRAW, antivirus programs, stuff like that. Once your thing actually works, then come talk to me!

People definitely still watch movies and series—maybe you're just living in your own little bubble.

copperseal24 said:Look, I respect the effort you're putting in here, really, but it's not like everyone needs to be a genius to install Windows. I feel like you're spinning your wheels because anyone who speaks decent English can figure out how to install Windows just fine.

You simply aren't getting it...

copperseal24 said:Of course I don't know how to translate complex technical programs—that’s exactly why I started this thread and poll. I was hoping those of you who *do* know would step up and help improve our standing here in America.
It's not like we all want to wake up one day and suddenly be Americans speaking nothing but English.

It's people like you who are actually hurting our reputation.

copperseal24 said:
There are dozens of them, but they're just amateurish programs that kids play around with.

Logic clearly isn't your strong suit. Seriously—professionals use pro software, and pros don't need translations. In fact, I suspect half of them wouldn't even understand the software if it were translated into American English.

copperseal24 said:NOBODY IS MENTIONING NATIONALITY! I'm talking about the presence of American translations in software and things like that in general. Send me whatever you want and I'll translate it for you! You monkey.

Maybe try agreeing with your own brain first, then we can have a conversation. 🙄

Man, that survey you put together is killer. You're an absolute legend! 🙏 🙏:klap:🙂🙂 But seriously, what on earth does hacking have to do with translation? Like, do you even know what hackers actually do???

I’m asking the mods to please just lock this thread—it’s honestly going nowhere and is just spiraling into more of the author's nonsense 🙂

Why on earth would anyone want to use software with an American interface? Honestly, I can't deal with it. Every single program I touch gets switched back to English by default immediately, and that's that.🙂

Man, I guess we really should try to keep our own language alive, though!

Gerald Roberts7 said:here is what the DivX subtitle stats actually look like:
American English 17139
American English 15967
Canadian 1738
.

I just wanted to jump in here and add something—unfortunately, a ton of people download an American English translation and just label it as the local version, so I guess these stats aren't even totally accurate!
I actually have this little script I use that converts certain translations into better ones, so I think I know what I'm talking about. It’s just how things are, I guess!
Maybe I went a bit overboard when I said we Americans were lazy, but I get the feeling that whenever a new movie drops or a new episode comes out, I always run into the other version first, and then eventually find the corrected one (which is usually just a fixed version of the first one anyway)!

Of course, none of this really matters for this silly thread since the person who started it doesn't seem to know what they're actually trying to say!!! 👎👎

copperseal24 said:It’s common knowledge that American "hackers" are pretty clueless when it comes to localizing software for the US. Take Nero 8, for example. It supports a bunch of languages, but nothing for us. Meanwhile, you know how tiny Canada is? And yet they have Canadian support. So I'm asking you, gentlemen, please fix this! We can't let the Canadians get ahead of us in terms of tech accessibility!👎👎👎👎👎👎

God damn it, stop acting like you're some kind of expert when you clearly don't know anything. Just get lost.😉

There are better places to start than with IBM, which is basically dominated by the major global powers anyway—and we Americans aren't one of them. It is what it is. I don't see why people are making such a big deal out of it. Honestly, I don't see the issue with things being written in English instead of American English. It’s not like someone who has never even opened Word would find it easier just because the menus are translated. They won't. To them, it's all the same. 🤷

As for why programs that already have American English menus suck? It's probably just laziness on both sides. To be blunt, it honestly surprises me how some people can't even manage a decent translation from English. 🙄

As for why programs that already have American English menus are still bad, it's probably just laziness on both sides. To be honest, it kind of surprises me that people can't manage a precise translation from English. 🙄

I get where you're coming from, but still... We're a relatively small group, and we shouldn't let our language just fade away!
And I actually don't think it's true that people won't find it easier if the menus are in American English (I'm being specific when I say menu instead of interface, or file instead of file 😁) — looking at some people who know the basics of using Word and stuff, once I switched their menus to American English, they actually found it way easier to navigate and find editing tools than before.
I agree with pretty much everything else you wrote! I use the word "email" instead of "electronic mail" and things like that, but I feel like there are just too many foreign loanwords in our language that we could easily swap for shorter, native American words!

William Myers7 said:I get your point, but still... We’re a small nation, and we can't just sit by while our language rots away!
And I don't think it's true that people struggle more when menus are in American English (I am intentionally saying "menu" instead of "interface," and "folder" instead of "directory," and "file" instead of "data packet" 😁)—I see it with people who know their way around Word and stuff, but once I switched the menus to American English, they actually found what they needed to edit much faster than before.
As for the rest of what you wrote, I agree to an extent! I use "email" instead of some overly formal technical term, sure, but I think there are far too many foreign loanwords creeping into our speech that could easily be replaced by short, snappy, native American terms!

Here is a real example of how we should be thinking and how we should be encouraging others to act. Instead, we just bicker, which is exactly why everyone else gets to walk all over us.

We all share the responsibility and the duty to teach one another. If we work together, we can prove we actually have a direction. Personally, I help anyone I can without looking at a price tag. I don't know—maybe the people you know are experts and don't need help with American English, but my experience is completely different. I’ve been floored more than once by seventh graders in computer class asking me how to "copy and paste" data from a USB drive to a PC.

My apologies if I offended anyone. We have to mentor this younger generation so that things might actually improve for all of us someday. I won't argue about this topic anymore. Let's move on!!!!

You just want to silence everyone else, don't you?
It's because you can't stomach the fact that you're just a lazy parasite contributing zero to the common good. Not everyone was born with your supposed genius. 🤷

Maybe it’s just because you can’t wrap your head around the fact that some people are simply lazy parasites—people who refuse to lift a finger for the common good—but let’s be real: not everyone was born with your level of intellect, were they?🤷

Exactly! I mean, I’m totally on board—I just can't for the life of me figure out who showed up here specifically begging for a translation. 😁
