Need some advice!

So, here’s the deal... about three weeks ago, I went to see my OB-GYN because I was dealing with some heavy discharge and this constant stinging sensation. And get this—he didn't even bother giving me a physical exam! He just handed me some Medazol and sent me on my way. Well, I tried using those feminine hygiene products he suggested, but they didn't do a thing. It lasted maybe two days before the stinging when I pee came right back, along with that weird, throbbing discharge. Honestly, I’m at my wit's end here. Now I’ve got this dull ache in my lower abdomen, too. To make matters worse, he told me that next time we'd do a Pap smear—which is exactly what he said during the first visit! So, I have to wait until May 14th to see him again? I feel like I'm going to lose my mind in the meantime. I think it's definitely time to find a new doctor.

Wait, he didn't even give you a full exam? That is such a waste of time—seriously, what are they even doing over there?

Girl, change your doctor immediately!! I went through the exact same thing—pelvic pain, discharge, and stinging—so I went in for an exam, and my doctor checked me out and gave me two boxes of feminine hygiene products. Once I finished them (which took two damn weeks), the symptoms flared up again. I went back, and he just gave me two more boxes. I finally snapped and saw a different specialist, who sorted everything out. He told me my previous doctor shouldn't have been prescribing those feminine hygiene products like that; it was actually really dangerous. I got a prescription for a cream and some pills, and I haven't had a single issue since. Also, you can sue him for not performing an exam. That is literally his job; he has to examine you before he can prescribe anything. My advice? Switch doctors now and you'll get this fixed!👍

Finding a decent gynecologist in smaller towns is like hunting for a needle in a haystack... My doctor won't even let you book an appointment whenever you need one; she’s only available two specific days out of the month. It's absolutely ridiculous...

He didn't even actually examine me... he just asked if the discharge had an unpleasant odor, which I told him it did, and then he just handed me some Medazol. It’s such a disaster because, based on my symptoms, it could easily be chlamydia... but he won't even give me a physical exam, let alone run any swabs, and to top it off, the OBGYN is barely older than I am.

That's literally what they're paid for. An exam is part of the job, whether you have specific symptoms or not! Seriously, just find a new OB-GYN and call it a day. Problem solved!

So, I've decided... I'm finally switching up my gynecologist. Honestly, I don't really have any other options in the area right now, but it's time for a change...

A Pap smear at the OB-GYN is a total must. It’s nothing scary for the patient, but the doctor really needs to take a look.

Why does it feel like female gynecologists are way ruder and more cold-hearted than the guys????

Anyway, go find a different doctor ASAP. Seriously, find the best one out there. You can never have too many second opinions.

Back when I had my baby in the old 60s... the community nurse actually did an exam and even checked the scent! Seriously, if there’s no smell, it could be dangerous because things might be stuck inside the uterus. And let me tell you... I actually passed some placenta fragments while I was peeing later on!!

Anyway, a Pap smear isn't related to childbirth... any gynecologist should be running those tests periodically. It's basically the gold standard for checking if your reproductive health is on track.

You absolutely have to switch doctors and get all those tests done (there is more information about that on the Women's Health forums under "The 4 essential gynecological swabs...").
Those symptoms could point to just about anything, and you really shouldn't play games when it comes to your body!

So, here's the deal... I just checked my blood sugar, and about two or three hours after eating, I'm sitting at 149. I took my Glucophage right after breakfast, so it really should have kicked in by now. Maybe those weird symptoms are popping up again because of the sugar levels? Either way, I’m still going through with those swabs. Does anyone know if the insurance covers those when you see an OB-GYN, or am I footing the whole bill myself?

You really need to get those swabs done... there might be an underlying bacterial infection at play here.
I went through the exact same thing, and my tests came back showing four different types of bacteria.😲
Like Edward Green mentioned, getting tested is free under most insurance plans.
The unfortunate reality is that with most gynecologists, you have to act as both the expert and the patient just to ensure you get an accurate diagnosis and the right treatment plan.
So, my advice is to go to the clinic for the actual swab first, and then hunt for a more experienced specialist. Let this younger doctor gain some experience on someone else's time.😉

If you really want to avoid complications in such sensitive areas—like a nasty kidney infection—you should probably browse the gynecologist thread and find someone who can squeeze you in sooner. Even if it costs a bit more, this is one of those things where it is absolutely worth the investment. It’s your health we're talking about, and honestly, how are you planning to deal with that "pain and burning" for the next two weeks? Not to mention all the other potential issues that could pop up.

Use your head and get to a gynecologist! Either that, or wait until you start seeing blood when you pee. 🙄

Listen, Alex, where exactly did you see a clear diagnosis being made here? Her gynecologist—who, honestly, needs to be replaced ASAP—hasn't even examined her yet, let alone ordered any follow-up tests to figure out what's actually going on.

Right now, it could be anything. I specifically mentioned a UTI or kidney issues as possible consequences of the initial problem. My point is—it doesn't even have to be a yeast infection; it could just be some bacteria in her urine causing all that pain and stinging.

Or maybe you're a mind reader just like her doctor, where you can just jump straight to a conclusion without any proof? 😉
