Someone brought up ISIS—now we’re talking! Seriously, you gotta check them out. Then you’ve got Opeth and Pain of Salvation, those absolute geniuses from Sweden, plus Porcupine Tree, and Tool (if you're into that gritty American prog vibe)
Dream Theater or Sigur Rós? Come on, guys, have some taste!! 🙂

As far as rock goes... A Perfect Circle, that prog/alt stuff... Aaaaah, my heart is finally at peace 🙂

Or maybe Dream Theater or Sigur Rós... Honestly, people, have a little bit of taste!! 🙂

Well, damn, everyone has their own taste, I guess... It doesn't offend me that you brought up taste, but maybe if you were going to suggest Pink Floyd or King Crimson instead of Sigur Rós, it would be better... rather than suggesting names like Tulčić or Kružić. 🙂

Let's talk about prog Metal, not just regular rock! At least, that's my take on it. 🙂
I mean, Pink Floyd is an absolute classic—you can't say a damn thing against them! 🙂

Porcupine Tree is easily my absolute favorite—though I have to admit, back in the early days when they were leaning much harder into that psychedelic sound, they had me hooked in a different way. Beyond them, you’ve got Dream Theater before they hit the "Train of Thought" era, Andromeda, Circus Maximus, and Opeth—though you have to be careful with Opeth, because once they start mixing in all that Death Metal, they aren't exactly for everyone, are they? Then there's Pain of Salvation and Riverside...

So, let's talk about Dream Theater and their Train of Thought era. Honestly, looking back at that specific run, it’s such a beast. It’s one of those albums where they really decided to stop playing nice and just lean into the aggression. It feels much more suffocating and technical than what they were doing before, almost like they were trying to see how much weight the listener could actually carry before buckling under the sheer intensity of it all. It’s heavy, unapologetically so, and it definitely marked a shift in their DNA.Look, you’ve got Andromeda, Circus Maximus, Opeth—and honestly, it's about time we saw more heavy death metal in the mix too, though I know that's not for everyone. Then you have Pain of Salvation and Riverside...

If you ask me—and this is just my two cents—everything up until the 6DOIT album is absolute brilliance. Everything after that? Honestly, it just loses me. It’s become pretty uninteresting to my ears.

Just go grab some Death - The sound of Preservance and listen to the best progressive metal until your ears bleed.😉

I’m on board with that, and I'd also throw Individual Thought Patterns into the mix... 🙂

Auuu, I totally forgot to mention: Demons and Wizards-Uriah Heep.
Another killer album. How did that slip my mind? Honestly, now that I'm thinking about it, a few others are popping up too—but this one alone is plenty.

For me, it’s gotta be Pink Floyd, Isis, and Control Denied. First off, we're talking top-tier rock; second, one of the greatest bands ever to grace the stage; and third, some truly fantastic progressive metal.

Look, they primarily fall under the doom metal umbrella—and yeah, they’re absolutely brilliant. 🙏

A bit on the black metal side, but they’re actually solid 🙂
