Do you add any sweetener?

I don't use any sweeteners, and yeah, it definitely helps my digestion.
I mean, why else would I have been sipping on this for years? At first, it was kind of a struggle to get through a huge amount of
water, but now it's just second nature. I usually stick to warm or even hot water, mostly because
it’s way easier to chug down when it's warm rather than ice cold.

I doubt he meant it quite that strictly.
In any case, staying hydrated is key, but we shouldn't turn drinking water into some kind of religious ritual. 🙂 😎

Water is essential for our metabolism, helps fill up the stomach to signal satiety to the brain, and assists in absorbing the food we've already eaten.

How many times have you felt hungry, grabbed a glass of water, and realized the hunger vanished? Often, thirst gets mistaken for hunger in those early stages. A quick glass of water solves that "hunger." Just don't try offering that solution to people starving in Biafra... 😁

Chloe Davis37 said:So, here's the deal. I was on thyroid medication for a few years—every single morning, on an empty stomach, with a massive glass of water. No exceptions. On average, I drink about three liters of water a day.
Did it help me lose any weight? Not a damn thing. Nothing changed until I actually hit the gym and fixed my diet...

Look, drinking water isn't a bad habit, but it’s definitely not a magic weight-loss pill.

Exactly. Jumping from a couple of ounces to two liters a day might be a game-changer for someone who was basically living in a desert, but if you're already hitting three liters, it's not going to move the needle. 😁

That said, she's right—you still have to account for the other variables in the equation: calorie intake versus calorie burn. Plus, just general health matters too. 👍

wiredtiger10 said:Look, don't overcomplicate a simple thing—it's common knowledge that Japanese people drink a couple of glasses of water right when they wake up.

Since when was that a known fact?😕 Do Chinese people do that too?

wiredtiger10 said:Go ahead, give me your brilliant suggestion for what a person should eat or drink in the morning. I'm sure your answer would be COFFEE, A DONUT, A CIGARETTE.

I definitely wouldn't recommend that, but I'm pretty sure that's how you breakfasted, which is probably why you need to lose weight... if I wanted to slim down, I'd grab a mountain of oatmeal or some whole grain toast with milk. Why? You're a smart guy, figure it out. Or maybe you don't agree with me?

wiredtiger10 said:Just think about it for a second—your body hasn't had water for eight hours, so use some logic. Wouldn't it make sense to give your body water after eight hours without that essential fluid? Nobody's talking about dropping 30 pounds here; it's more about starting the day right, which naturally ends up affecting your weight.

After eight hours of sleep, your body needs nutrients because it's been without them for eight hours... if you skip that, you're just messing with your metabolism, and you'll almost certainly end up eating more at lunch and dinner, which leads to gaining fat.

wiredtiger10 said:I had two glasses today and honestly, I wasn't as hungry, so I ate less for breakfast and lunch. Maybe it's because I started the day with one simple, logical step: drinking water.

🙏🙏😂 Sure, keep going with that logic...

Basically, if you're looking to lose weight, you should stick to three main meals and two snacks a day. It keeps the metabolism steady—or so they say—and helps you dodge those starvation gaps. When you go too long without eating, your body just gets smart and starts hoarding everything for later (fat, glycogen, whatever) because it thinks the next meal might be a long way off.

That said, with five small meals, the real kicker is what you're actually eating and how much goes into it.

(Vegetables, vegetables, more vegetables at every single meal)

Sure, I agree with you, though I'd probably add that what you eat and when you eat it matters just as much... if you want to lose weight the healthy way, you really need to get moving—running, power walking, whatever—to create a calorie deficit. You know, burning more than you take in.

James Rogers53 said:since when was that even a thing? 😕 and do the Chinese do it?

I KNOW ABOUT THE JAPANESE PERSON—IF YOU CARE ABOUT THE CHINESE, JUST GOOGLE IT.

I definitely wouldn't recommend it, but I'm pretty sure you just ate breakfast and now you're feeling like you gotta lose weight... if I wanted to slim down, I’d grab a massive bowl of oatmeal or some whole grain toast with milk in the morning. Why? Because you're smart—get it. Or you don't agree with me?

NOPE, I DON'T AGREE WITH A SINGLE WORD YOU'RE WRITING. YOU HAVEN'T EVEN SAID ANYTHING YET OTHER THAN BEING AGAINST DRINKING WATER.

The body needs nutrients after 8 hours of sleep because it's been 8 hours without them... if you skip that, you're just screwing up your metabolism and you'll definitely pack on weight at lunch and dinner, which leads to gaining fat.

AND WHO TOLD YOU I'M SKIPPING ANYTHING? I STARTED THE MORNING WATER THING YESTERDAY, AND JUST LIKE ALWAYS, I EAT CORN FLAKES OR MUESLI WITH MILK FOR BREAKFAST.

🙏🙏😂 keep going with that crap...

YEAH, OF COURSE I'M STILL GONNA DRINK WATER.

You're the first person I've met who sees a problem with drinking water—honestly, any other topic would probably get the same treatment from you.

I don't get what part isn't clicking for you. I wake up, knock back two glasses of water, and then eat breakfast—usually corn flakes or muesli with milk.

So, even in this perfect start to the day, you're finding an issue. Not sure if you even realize that about 2/3 of the human body is water, and people dehydrate overnight just through normal bodily functions and sweating.

So what could be healthier or smarter than drinking water after 8 hours of sleep?

Answer me that.

Come on! 🤣

Exactly. 👍 My take? It's all about eating less than you burn. People trick themselves into thinking they can outrun a bad diet by hitting the gym hard, but that only works for a couple of months while they're disciplined enough to run an hour every single day. As soon as they tweak an ankle or winter hits and they stop running, they keep eating like crazy, but since their activity level drops back to normal, the weight starts piling on again.

Bottom line: watch what you eat, and keep moving. 👍

Emily Fox76 said:Look.

I was 16 years old, weighing about 180 pounds at 5'9". Honestly, everyone used to give me crap about being fat—even my best friends—until one day...

The second I saw this, I just thought, "Screw it, if water can do it, so can I." But I actually gave it a shot. Every single morning, I’d just drink nothing but water, and after two months, I had dropped 45 pounds. And the kicker? I didn't even change what I ate; I didn't cut back on anything. Now I'm sitting at around 143 pounds, still 5'9".😁

So you're saying you were 5'9" and 180 pounds? Man, that's not even that heavy. Are you even male or female here? And now you're claiming you're down to 143?😲 Look, you won't lose weight until you get it through your head that you actually want to. It's about cutting out those bad habits and letting it happen naturally. You can't do it all at once, obviously; it takes time. But how the weight comes on is how it leaves, provided you aren't just sitting on your couch like a total couch potato. Then again, there's always the genetic factor. If your parents have a specific build—you know, thin or heavy😁—there's a high probability you'll end up the same way regardless of effort. I dealt with weight issues myself back in the day, so I started hitting the gym every single day for like eight hours. Fast forward a few years, and no matter how much I eat, I can't seem to put that weight back on. I lost the fat, gained some decent muscle, and honestly, I just feel better. It's sports. Just stick to sports.

See, now you're slowly changing your tune... you didn't mention anything about eating breakfast before, just that you drink water and feel less hungry or eat less at lunch. And you were insisting you could lose weight this way, but now you aren't saying that anymore—or maybe it's just me.
And I never said water was the issue. The issue is the idea that you'll actually drop weight just because you drink some water in the morning before you hit the bathroom and wash your face.

I never said water itself was the issue—my point was about the idea that drinking water right after waking up and taking care of your morning business (gross, by the way) is some magic weight loss trick.

No, I'm not changing my mind—you're just putting words in my mouth. I never said I eat breakfast*—so don't go jumping to conclusions for me. I did say that after knocking back two cases of water, I feel less hungry for breakfast and lunch. Stop making stuff up and speaking for other people. You're claiming I said you could lose weight this way? The thread starter said that, not me—though I agree with him, but not for the stupid reasons you're rambling about. Water isn't going to "melt fat," but starting the day this way is definitely smarter than eating donuts and smoking cigarettes. And honestly, why are you so obsessed with all this talk about morning hygiene and "business"? The OP said the first thing you should do is drink water before brushing your teeth or hitting the bathroom—you're the one who added that weirdly specific detail about the "mess." Is that really what you think he meant literally? Or is it just a simple way to tell people to hydrate first thing? I have zero issue with that, but you're acting like it's some massive, unsolvable crisis.

And again—after all that typing, you still haven't answered any questions or offered a single better suggestion. So what's better than drinking water before breakfast then? Come on, share it with us. People have been waking up and heading to a stream or a river for water for thousands of years, and here you are in 2024 trying to convince all us water-drinkers we're wrong. Where is this "alternative" method or your big suggestion? People like you have an issue with everything—criticizing everything, nothing is ever good enough, but you never actually offer a solution or a way forward. You just want to talk trash.

STOP MAKING STUFF UP AND SPEAKING FOR OTHER PEOPLE!

P.S.

DRINK A GLASS OF WATER.

I’ll knock back about 8 ounces of water during the night—and then another 8 almost immediately upon waking... purely out of habit, really—and yet I’m still carrying an extra 20 pounds. 😉

wiredtiger10, keep going with that "child" nonsense if you want... I guess it's not easy for you...
I have no interest in arguing with idiots—you just end up sinking to their level before they beat you down with their own "experience."

What diet? What success? Me, being "tough"? Me, being an idiot?

WHAT ARE YOU EVEN TALKING ABOUT? This thread is about some guy recommending drinking water before breakfast—all your made-up nonsense has been debunked as garbage a million times already. Do yourself a favor and just stop typing so much.
