That game was anything but pretty; honestly, it’s a miracle neither side collapsed given the sheer number of unforced errors.
It wouldn't be fair to say we won just because we were slightly less incompetent than they were. We fought hard, and right now, we’re ahead by two goals—but if everyone on both sides were actually healthy, we’d probably be up by at least five. At the end of the day, wins are wins, and playing yourself into a corner like that usually comes back to haunt you eventually.
The intensity and nerves on both sides were laid bare by the fact that even a wizard like Ivan turned the ball over five or six times and shot a mediocre 50%.

Everyone is exhausted and nursing injuries right now, while the Frenchmen were smart enough to rest their starters against Canada.

It’s just one of those things that really stings, I suppose. Back when we were playing such incredible, seamless basketball, we only dropped a single game throughout the entire tournament before finishing 5th 😲. It honestly hurts to watch now, seeing them play so sluggishly and just looking completely lifeless on the court. But then again, they did make it to the semifinals, and I guess my only hope at this point is that they somehow manage to stumble their way through—playing just as poorly as they are now—but somehow scraping by to beat both the Frenchmen and the Germans to bring the gold back home to the States ☕

As for the battle for third place, it was Denmark versus the US, which saw Denmark clinching the bronze medal.

If we had possessed even one cohesive set play, this would have been over by the 50-minute mark.

I watched the guys during the timeout; one of them says, "Let's run that 3+1 play for Mimi," or some nonsense like that, but it looked practiced. That’s just how these guys work—they rely on patterns, whereas we all prefer improvisation, but it doesn't look particularly pretty.

And then comes the break --- Lino: "We've got one more minute..." 🤷

The success is great, and we should thank Janusz the Pole for giving us those ball handlers.👍😍
