Hey everyone!
Just wanted to get this out there—I’ve already booked an appointment to deal with this mess, but since I’m stuck waiting two weeks for a slot, maybe you guys can give me some advice in the meantime. So, after a ten-month dry spell, I'm back in a steady relationship and we're having regular sex again. The catch? Right after that first time (you know, after being "out of practice" for ten months), I started getting this stinging sensation whenever I pee, almost like a bladder infection. I tried drinking some cranberry juice and it seemed to chill out after a day or two. But now, every single time we hook up—and let's be real, it's pretty frequent at the start of a relationship—the next day the burning comes right back and I'm constantly running to the bathroom 😢 ... At first, I figured it was just my body being irritated from the sudden change, but it’s been going on for two weeks now and it's starting to feel weird. The annoying part is that it settles down for a day or two, but then as soon as we sleep together again, the stinging returns... Has anyone else dealt with something like this?😕

The most practical advice—which you’ll actually find on that page too—is to make sure you pee both right before and as soon as possible after sex. It’s all about flushing out the urethra to prevent things from building up.

Honestly, don't feel like you have to wait two weeks for your OBGYN appointment. Just head over to your primary care physician now. They're going to want to run a urine analysis anyway, so you might as well get the ball rolling immediately.

Are you guys using condoms?
What you're describing sounds more like an inflammation, though it’s pretty unusual for it to flare up and settle down that quickly...
Then again, there's such a thing as a lubricant allergy—and just like any allergy, it can hit you out of nowhere—which means you might need to switch to higher-end brands with cleaner, hypoallergenic lubricants, or if it turns out you're allergic to latex, you'll have to look into other protection options once you've cleared the usual suspects like HPV, chlamydia, and those other lovely little things... 😉

My partner is on the pill, but back when she was taking a break from it, we had sex with a condom once and I was dealing with this intense stinging for a couple of days... we tried it again later and it was basically the same thing, so now in those situations we just use a different type of condom with a different lubricant and everything is fine.

So, since you've already scheduled that appointment with your gynecologist, definitely go through with it, but in the meantime, maybe try switching up the brand of condoms if you're using them...

Thanks for all the input, guys. I’m pretty sure I’m dealing with that whole honeymoon cystitis thing—plus maybe some E. coli that just won't quit 🙄 . I'll see what my doctor says, though...

We don't use condoms, and I'm on the pill...

If he's finishing inside you, there's a chance he's passing along a bacterial infection—I can't recall the specific name right now. I actually went through something very similar when I was in a long-term relationship; my boyfriend ended up getting a referral for a semen analysis, and they found something during the tests. He was prescribed a round of antibiotics, took them, and was totally fine. It isn't anything to panic about; it happens more often than you'd think.

I’m honestly a bit worried it might be HPV, though I’m really hoping I'm wrong because that's just awful. I've seen someone deal with it before (not me personally), and man, it's a nightmare. I'm definitely not a medical pro and I don't want to freak you out, but those symptoms look all too familiar.
A close friend of mine went through this, and she walked me through the whole ordeal. She actually ended up needing surgery because she waited way too long to get checked out.

I'm rooting for you and hope everything turns out fine, but your doctor will definitely have the final word on this...

Anyway, don't let me get in your head too much. Just hang in there until your appointment and it'll be over soon. I've got a feeling it won't be anything too crazy... 😉

Jesus, no way 😲 Now you've got me totally spiraling. I actually had HPV a few years back, but everything has been totally fine and clear since then—I get regular checkups and my OBGYN told me that, as far as things stand right now, I can pretty much forget I ever even had it. Is it actually possible for it to just... flare up again??😲 Anyway, I totally panicked and called the clinic, so they squeezed me in for Friday... at least I won't be sitting around sweating for days... I just really hope it's nothing serious 😢
