Douglas Doyle3 said:Hi there, I was wondering if anyone knows about effective treatments for osteomyelitis (staph infections)?

I haven't checked this thread in quite a while—but as I mentioned last summer regarding my father's really difficult situation, there's still a little bit of hope for those suffering...
Even though the infection had progressed quite a bit, my dad is still with us and hasn't had to undergo an amputation. Because he had to stay in bed for such a long period, the wound actually closed up (it used to be an open sore on his foot about the size of an average palm)...
Now, I suppose proper treatment is highly personalized, since it really depends on how far the disease has progressed. From what I've seen, doctors usually prescribe antibiotics after taking a culture from the wound, but unfortunately, the bacteria seems to be becoming more resistant all the time...
I also know that silver-infused bandages seemed to help him quite a bit.

I hope this information might be useful to you...

I’m just really glad to hear this had a positive outcome. My grandmother actually dealt with something similar—she had osteomyelitis in her foot, but her leg ended up healing just fine. They used some kind of plastic cast and she received really proper care. If I recall correctly, it was all handled at the Mayo Clinic. It’s been quite a long time since then, though. She eventually passed away from something else entirely, in her very old age.
