The legendary rock veterans, Bad Situation, are throwing a massive celebration at the Boogaloo club this Saturday, February 4th, 2017. They’ll be marking the achievement of their latest studio album, "Rocker Through and Through," going Gold.

I guess in this day and age, hitting Gold status is basically a pipe dream for most American musicians. It just doesn't happen that often anymore. But Bad Situation—with their specific sound, style, and the way they pretty much ignore all the standard rules of modern show business—actually managed to move enough copies to earn that certification. Maybe it's just proof that their loyal fans really stick by them, but it feels like a genuine reward for years of hard work.

This award marks the tenth album released by the band since they first started back in 1992. I imagine the celebratory set at Boogaloo will feature plenty of hits and a good look back at their whole career. You can probably expect to hear tracks like "One Night Once," "Need Something Stronger Than a Dream," "The Sun Shines in Vain," "For Every Tear," and a few others.

They won't be alone, though. Their old friends from the local scene, the band Hard Time, will be joining the party. They actually just put out a new record called "Rock'n'roll."

If you haven't heard of Terry Francis yet, I guess you might not have really explored the world of electronic beats quite as much as you thought. Most clubgoers, when asked about their favorite spot on the planet, usually point toward Fabric in London. It's funny because Terry actually started his whole career right there, on the floor, during the very first night that legendary club opened its doors.

So, yeah; Terry is definitely one of those pioneers, though he seems more like a timeless traveler through all the different genres and weird corners of electronic music. When he's behind the decks, he kind of works his magic by blending acid, trippy electro, funk, techno, and these really groovy house sounds. There's also this interesting detail—his wife actually started a "support club for female DJs" because he’s away so much, which I suppose just shows how dedicated he’s been to the global scene all these years.

Back in 1997, Muzik Magazine named him Best New DJ, which was a bit surprising since he already had about ten years of experience under his belt by then. On top of that, this charming guy was basically dubbed the ambassador for tech-house—or "houseno," as he calls it—and became sort of a guiding light and a hero for the underground house scene in the States and beyond.

RED APPLE CELEBRATES 30 YEARS OF THEIR ALBUM "FOR ALL THESE YEARS" WITH A SPECIAL CLUB SHOW AT THE BOOGALOO IN CHICAGO ON FRIDAY, APRIL 7TH

The Boogaloo is putting together a real treat for you—a live performance by the legendary Red Apple this Friday, April 7th!
Back in the day, specifically 1985, five young guys got together and decided they wanted to play love songs. Out of all the different names suggested for the band, they ended up going with Red Apple because someone happened to bring some red apples to rehearsal one time. In 1986, Red Apple released their debut album, and with hits like "Rain, Stay Away from My Window," "Dirlija," and "From Your Lips," they became an overnight success. That same year, the band planned their first tour, aiming to kick things off in St. Louis on September 18, 1986. Sadly, they never made it to that show; while traveling toward the destination, the group was involved in a tragic car accident near a highway rest stop that claimed the lives of their lead singer and guitarist, Drazen Richel, and their bassist, Aljos Bub. In January 1987, the remaining three original members—Cunja, Zlaja, and Zera, who stepped up as the new lead vocalist—recorded their second album, "For All These Years," as a tribute to Drazen and Aljos. At that point, Zera had previously played keyboards and provided backing vocals.

On their follow-up album, "Dreaming," they brought on a new bassist, Niksa Bratos, and the band just kept moving forward with a successful career that continues to this day. They’ve put out a string of great records like "Where Love Begins," "Take Me When You Want," "Somehow in Spring," "In Your Eyes," and "The World is a Colorful Ball." To mark the 30th anniversary of "For All These Years," we’ll be hosting this special club gig featuring a massive retrospective of their greatest hits.

It should be a night full of classics—"Dirlija," "Where Love Begins," "Sadness, You and I," "Somehow in Spring," "The Door to Your Heart," "Rain, Stay Away from My Window," "I Wish You Were Here," "I Like This Thing," "Something From Heart to Heart," "That's What You Do Do," and plenty more. Between their reputation for marathon concerts and those timeless songs, it seems like a pretty good reason to show up.

After the main set, the party keeps going after midnight with our "All-American Classics" night, spinning nothing but old-school hits. If you come for the concert, staying for the party is free. For those who just want to join in for the late-night party, entry will be $6.75.

Doors open at 9:00 PM, and the music starts at 10:00 PM.

To kick things off for the 2017 festival, on Thursday, October 5th at 7 PM at THE STAGE, we’re hosting our third annual "Electronic Round Table." It’s a DJ panel where we’ll probably dive into some interesting topics regarding the electronic music scene, followed by a warm-up party.

On the second day, Friday 10/06/2017, the DEPO Club is set aside for our usual FSOA "New Talent" Night, where we'll showcase 6 DJs from the next generation.
The main event falls on Saturday, 10/07/2017. We’ll be going hard from 10 PM to 7 AM across 6 themed floors in 3 clubs, plus the Photo Studio District—which is a cool new spot where we'll be hosting the FSOA Legends Floor for the first time. All the clubs and spaces for the FSOA floors are located right next to each other within the old industrial district loop (Depo, Shock Show Industry, Museum, Photo Studio District).
This year's "FSOA Official Afterparty" will happen on Sunday, 10/08/2017, back at THE STAGE.

LET 3, PHANTASMAGORIA, AND EoT BRING THE GRAND FINALE TO THE BOOGALOO CLUB IN NYC ON FRIDAY, OCTOBER 6TH

The tenth anniversary of the Great Rock Explosion festival is happening from September 30th through October 6th, featuring six different venues across the city. To kick things off and celebrate ten years of the festival, there will be an opening ceremony and a double CD release on Saturday, September 30th at 11:00 AM at the Greta Gallery on 5th Avenue. The big finale lands on Friday, October 6th. It’s all going back to where it all started a decade ago—the Boogaloo Club—with performances by the legendary Let 3, the moody Phantasmagoria, and some rising stars from New Jersey called EoT. Throughout the week, you'll find shows popping up in all sorts of unexpected spots, like galleries, bookstores, recording studios, museums, and even local radio stations...

On Friday, October 6th, the Boogaloo Club will host the closing night of this year's milestone tenth Great Rock Explosion festival. This "Grand Finale" features Let 3, who I guess are easily one of the most fascinating and essential bands in the country. They've proven they aren't just loud, eccentric outsiders; they are a top-tier rock powerhouse. Even though they grew out of the punk and alternative scenes, they've stayed at the pinnacle of the American music landscape for thirty years, constantly reinventing themselves with new projects. With six studio albums under their belt, they've picked up plenty of major awards too. As special guests, we have the notorious dark-rockers Phantasmagoria, who are making a slow but steady comeback. They've been around since 1988 and hit their stride in the early nineties when they dominated the alternative circuit, touring internationally. After a long hiatus, they're sharing the stage again with Let 3, a group they used to play with frequently early in their careers, to perform both old and new material. Setting the stage will be EoT, a high-energy alternative punk/metal band from New Jersey. They released their debut album, "Defibrillation," earlier this year via Spona Records—the same label that discovered them during a newcomer set at a previous Rock Explosion fest.
Doors open at 8:30 PM, with EoT hitting the stage at 9:00 PM. Phantasmagoria follows at 10:00 PM, and Let 3 starts their spectacle at 11:00 PM. Once the show wraps up, there’s a New Wave Party where Tommy Phantasma and Schultz will be spinning New Wave classics and other local hits, along with some international tracks.

Tickets are $23 for pre-sale and $30 at the door. If you just want to attend the New Wave Party, tickets are $6.75 and can only be purchased at the entrance. Concert attendees are more than welcome to stay for the party afterward.

Venezuelan electro/dance/metal DJ and producer Zardonic is hitting the stage at Club Boogaloo in Chicago on October 7th!

An icon, an innovator, and a truly incredible performer—Federico Agreda Alvarez is a multi-talented, award-winning keyboardist, DJ, composer, and producer, best known for his solo project, Zardonic. His sound is essentially electro-dance infused with rock 'n' roll, though you can catch subtle hints of glitch hop, breakbeat, electro house, dubstep, drum & bass, and hardcore techno, all layered with heavy metal guitars and commanding vocals.

His stage presence is really what sets him apart—that mask he wears during shows is actually ranked among the top 10 DJ masks in the world! He’s reached the very peak of the Beatport Drum & Bass charts and even hit the bestseller lists for Hard Rock & Metal albums on Amazon. He’s released music through labels like Skrillex’s OWSLA, Dieselboy’s Planet Human, and Big Riddim Recordings, and recently signed with the multi-platinum label eOne Music. He’s done remixes for Nine Inch Nails, Pop Evil, Gorgoroth, Semargl, Crossfaith, and The Qemists, and his work has been used by artists like Heavygrinder, Black Sun Empire, Neonlight, State Of Mind, Evol Intent, Counterstrike, and The Outside Agency. He also produced the debut album "Freakshow" for American Grim and the comeback album for the legends Eve to Adam.
Billboard has called him "the missing link between metal and electronics," and Hypetrap describes him as "the perfect balance of different genres through aggression and atmosphere." He’s picked up plenty of awards, and over the last 15 years, he’s toured almost the entire globe, performing in 37 different countries.
As part of his massive world tour, he’s stopping in America this October! "I’m so excited to come to Chicago! Like I mentioned before, I’m moving to Europe in June, so I’m looking forward to the chance to meet the audience here," says Agreda, adding, "I can't wait to get to Chicago, guys—don't miss out, we're going to throw a hell of a party!"

Agreda is definitely someone who pushes boundaries, shifting trends in his genre and raising the bar for both the mainstream and underground scenes without ever feeling tied down by the rules. In that sense, he’s one of those pioneers whose sound critics say represents the future of music. So, I guess you really shouldn't miss the chance to see him at Club Boogaloo on October 7th!

Marko Milošević, also known as MKDSL (which translates roughly to "Mom says I'm handsome"), is a producer from New York, a multi-instrumentalist, live performer, and former DJ who has been in the music industry for over eighteen years. He’s spent a decade and a half building a diverse, unmistakable, and elusive body of work through DJing, and for the past three years, he’s focused exclusively on live performances. The style MKDSL brings is full of positive energy and a specific sense of humor, and when talking about his musical choices, he calls it "intelligent dance music." His live sets sort of blur the line between a live band performance and a DJ set, using an eclectic approach to blend techno, disco, ethnic sounds, rock, and punk into a modern club experience. As a DJ, he was a resident at some of New York's most famous clubs, composed music for various films, exhibitions, fashion shows, and plays, and has even led music workshops for kids and adults. Currently, he’s an active member of several bands, including Bojana Vunturišević's group, George Miljenović's band, and Chorbika. He also recently launched his own label, Chorbika Records, and released his first LP, "You and I," under it.

RHCP WORLD TRIBUTE
Founded back in 2003 in São Paulo, the Red Hot Chili Peppers tribute group by Organic actually holds the distinction of being the first tribute act from South America to ever tour Europe. They made two major trips over there—once in 2010 and again in 2013—playing shows across 38 different cities and 11 countries.

Back home, they’ve played everywhere, hitting 15 states and over 200 cities. They even toured through about 10 cities in Mexico and Canada, usually playing large-scale concerts or major music festivals.

I think the lead singer has actually crossed paths with the actual Chili Peppers a few times, and apparently, those were pretty great experiences. He was even featured in the Fandemonium book released in 2014, which was sort of an honor from the band to their fans during the I'm With You Tour.

The group ended up with the nickname Red Hot Chili Peppers World Tribute because, during that first European run in 2010, they were actually the first tribute band globally to feature members hailing from three different countries in their lineup.

The band tries to stay really close to the current RHCP tours, following their specific setlists and using the exact same instruments and stage outfits as the original guys. I guess you could say the band is made up strictly of die-hard fans; they seem to believe that's the only way to truly capture that same energy, atmosphere, and quality you'd see at a real RHCP show.

Friday the 13th is set aside for the premiere arrival of Alan Fitzpatrick, the master of deep, dark techno. He’s easily one of the most influential figures on the scene right now, I suppose. He’s built quite the global reputation through his work with the Drumcode label, which I think really paved the way for him to headline all those massive clubs and festivals across the States.

I've been thinking about it for a while now... just trying to wrap my head around the implications. It feels like we're all just trying to find some common ground in such a polarized climate. ALAN FITZPATRICK (US)

After an absolutely massive 2016, it’s pretty hard to argue against the fact that Alan Fitzpatrick has become one of the heavyweights in the electronic scene right now. Following a string of standout tracks over the last year, his trajectory seems to be shifting quite fast—moving from those gritty underground techno clubs straight toward the big festival stages. He’s definitely catching eyes at places like BBC Radio 1 and major outlets like Mixmag or Resident Advisor, which I guess has really cemented his spot as a global headliner. This momentum feels even more solid now that he’s launched his own multifaceted label, We Are The Brave, starting off strong with the debut single ‘We Do What We Want,’ alongside that highly praised Fabric 87 mix set.

Fitzpatrick has already established himself as a powerhouse producer, someone who has really managed to carve out a unique space for himself within the massive techno scene. It feels like he's become this almost unstoppable force when it comes to churning out hits. I mean, you couldn't escape tracks like ‘We Do What We Want’ back in the summer of 2016—it was playing everywhere, from ESPN highlights to heavy rotation on SiriusXM, even in places like Taco Bell. Since 2009, songs like ‘Love Siren,’ ‘Truant,’ ‘Skeksis,’ ‘For An Endless Night,’ ‘Always Something For Nothing,’ and ‘Reflections’—which was actually featured as an Essential New Tune on mainstream radio—have all climbed the charts. I guess it’s because people across all different genres seem to respect the sheer energy and originality he brings to the table. Whether he's layering soulful diva vocals over deep, driving beats, mixing emotional chords with those signature funk-heavy grooves, or blending jungle rhythms with intense techno energy, he just seems to know how to create something different. He has this way of making music that moves your mind and body, maybe because his tracks just don't sound like everything else out there.

It seems like a string of massive, floor-shaking anthems wasn't quite enough to keep Fitzpatrick at the top of the charts, because he's clearly found a whole new lane. He's started experimenting with a much wider sonic palette lately—digging into soulful textures and deeper grooves by blending electronica, breakbeat, dub, and house. Even though he's pushing himself out of his comfort zone, I guess that signature knack of his hasn't faded; he’s actually managed to turn these stylistic shifts into some of his most significant hits yet. We've seen standout releases on labels like Drumcode and Hotflush, along with remixes for heavyweights like Moby and Gorgon City. And, of course, there's that Trus'Me remix of "I Want You," which I think was basically the definitive anthem played in every club from Miami to Vegas throughout late 2014. All of this just makes me think that anyone following the techno scene really needs to rethink what they expect when an Alan Fitzpatrick record drops.

That same gut feeling Fitzpatrick brings to the studio seems to follow him right into the DJ booth. He's got a massive international reputation, too—you'll see him spinning at major clubs all over the map, and he even tackled a highly sought-after Essential Mix on BBC Radio 1. I guess you could say his sound has a pretty broad appeal. People seem drawn to that specific mix of heavy, infectious grooves and intense beats, which he manages to blend with these really thoughtful, melodic layers. Whether he's headlining huge US festivals like EDC Las Vegas or running his own We Are The Brave events, or touring through places like New York, LA, or overseas, he's always on the move. He’s been a staple at big names like Coachella or various summer tours, and he's even done his own multi-night runs at iconic spots during peak club seasons.

For over 35 years now, Zabranjeno Pušenje has been one of the most active bands on the scene. They still draw crowds all over the world, with tours stretching across America, Australia, Europe, and everywhere else they've played since their beginnings back in Sarajevo in 1980. I suppose playing in a major hub like New York feels extra special to them, especially since they made it their home base after leaving Sarajevo all those years ago.

The upcoming show at Boogaloo on October 20, 2017, is going to be a big one—they're actually celebrating the 20th anniversary of the "Fildžan viška" album. That was back in 1997, right when Sejo took over as the lead singer, and it gave us hits like "Možeš imat moje tijelo," "Mile Hašišar," or "Halid umjesto halida." At this anniversary gig, we'll likely hear all the other classics from Sejo's era, such as "Balada o pišonji i žugi," "Zenica Blues," "Fikreta," "Djevojčice kojima miriše koža," "Guzonjin sin," "Jugo 45," "Poso, kuća, birtija," "Karabaja," and plenty of others.

A Zabranjeno Pušenje concert usually turns into a multi-hour marathon of great music, so maybe you should grab your tickets sooner rather than later!

This Saturday, October 21st, the main hall at the Fillmore will be hosting an all-night tribute concert to honor the late Chester Bennington. They’ll be playing the biggest hits from Linkin Park—honestly, one of the most iconic bands of the 21st century, and a group that really defined an entire generation.

The band performing is PIKNIK PARK, a dedicated Linkin Park tribute act out of Budapest. They’ve been around for quite a while now, and they actually pride themselves on being the premier LP tribute band in Europe. They’ve toured extensively across the continent, playing everything from massive festivals to smaller clubs. This marks their second trip to the States after that incredible debut performance during the Good Vibrations tour earlier this year.
