Can smoking actually cause lung pain? I’ve been feeling this constant, light pressure in one lung or the other—sometimes both at once. Even now, if I take a deep breath, my chest starts to ache. Is it possible this is just from the smoking?

Even right now, taking a deep breath triggers a sharp little sting in my chest. Could this really be the smoking catching up to me?

Are you kidding me?!🙄
Get yourself to a doctor! Seriously, I really hope it’s nothing more than a bit of bronchitis.
How long has this been going on? Any other symptoms popping up?

It used to stop right after I finished a run or some heavy workout. Honestly, I stay on top of my checkups and get regular chest X-rays, so they really should have caught if something was off. I’m going to take a breather for a bit and see how it goes!🙂)

Man, please, just quit smoking already🙂. I don't want to freak you out, but this whole situation—including the running part😲—is an exact mirror of what happened to someone very young and dear to me who isn't here anymore😢. Honestly, I think your body is screaming at you that it's high time to stop poisoning yourself. I'm sure you could find a thousand other ways to blow off steam and enjoy life while saving a ton of cash, not to mention the massive boost to your health.

So, what happened with the person you mentioned, and how old were they? Only if you're comfortable sharing, of course!

It was microcellular bronchial carcinoma—the kind you see all the time in heavy smokers—and it was my cousin's husband. It started out as just an occasional ache whenever he took a deep breath, which everyone just chalked up to a lingering flu. They did some lung scans early on, but everything came back clean. He was a runner, too; he used to swear that as long as he was out on the track, he felt absolutely fine and had zero issues. But about ten months later, the pain in his back became excruciating, and he started running out of breath constantly. He’d also been dealing with bronchitis in the meantime. When they finally went back in for more imaging, they actually found something. From that point until he passed away, it was only four months.
Do I even need to ask how much of a smoker he was?

So, did he actually get checked for any tumor markers? I’m actually scheduled to have my own testicular tumor markers tested soon since I went through something similar just over two years ago.

As far as I know, no—there wasn't really a reason to check until things blew up. I could probably ask my cousin, but honestly, I feel like a jerk digging through her past trauma, if you know what I mean...
Look, you are clearly in a high-risk category given your history with testicular issues. You need to make some immediate lifestyle changes, and you should start by kicking the cigarettes. It feels to me like your body is practically screaming at you that it's struggling, which might be why it started with your testes in the first place. Seriously, listen to your body before it hits you over the head with it.
I look at my mother. That woman was always a bit sickly, but everything just fell apart for her over the last decade. She was constantly working against herself—living under immense stress, staying agitated, and acting like a child by refusing to deal with her mental health or her physical well-being. Two years ago, she was diagnosed with a brain tumor, and those six months of quality life she had left were spent living exactly how she should have been living all along (she's currently in a vegetative state).
Learn from other people's mistakes, because once these mistakes actually happen to you, they are incredibly hard to fix.

Those testicular tumor markers you're getting don't necessarily indicate anything regarding what might be happening in your lungs. There are specific markers used for that.

Go search Google for lung cancer images.

Then decide for yourself if a smoker's lungs can hurt.😲

.

I'm with her on this,
stop gambling with your health... maybe start shifting those habits... you love running, right? let the sport be your nicotine, your drug, your alcohol...

I’ve been smoking way too much lately and honestly, I’m feeling pretty great about it...
it almost feels like I could float up toward the moon for a month straight if I really tried.

Can someone run that by me one more time?
When and why would your lungs actually hurt, and what's the deal with that?

I’ve got asthma, and honestly, being stuck in a hospital bed because of it really puts things into perspective... you seriously shouldn't mess around with your lungs, they're way more fragile than people realize. JUST STOP SMOKING! Don't be like my old man, who didn't even think about quitting until he was staring down a lung cancer diagnosis!

I only ever dealt with it once.
That was back when I had the flu.
Never again...

If you have bronchitis, it hits when you take a deep breath, then you get pneumonia, then tuberculosis, or an asthma attack can tighten your chest so hard it actually hurts.

@Morgan Williams4, honestly, whether you're sipping on a Jack Daniel's or staying sober, you just need to quit smoking... I spent a good amount of time completely deluded about the whole thing until about two months ago, but thank God I finally saw sense

Wait, can lying down actually make your lungs ache?

😕
I highly doubt it. You might deal with back pain from staying stationary, but the lungs? Not likely.
