Sylvester Stallone

I'm starting this thread to get a discussion going about Sylvester Stallone. What’s your take on him and his filmography? You can check out his full bio and history on Wikipedia here:

Personally, I can't get enough of his work. My top picks are definitely all the Rocky movies, the Rambo trilogy, plus Demolition Man and Cliffhanger. He's easily one of my favorite actors out there.

I used to think he was the greatest actor alive when I was just a kid, but honestly, looking back now, he doesn't really move the needle for me anymore.

I’ve always had a soft spot for his classics—especially Rocky, and of course, Rambo.

It’s a total toss-up with him—as many of his movies are watchable as they are unwatchable. He really lacks that sense of humor he had back in Tango & Cash, though even then, he was just playing the sidekick in the duo. His best work is definitely in the gritty Rocky.

Honestly, one of his most underrated performances—though easily one of his best—is in the movie Cobra 🙏 Such a powerhouse of a film 🙏

Has anyone actually sat down and watched Death Race 2000? I still haven't gotten around to it. He shot that one before Rocky, playing the villain: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0072856/.

As for that joke about him being a comedian, I think nimblemarlin17 has plenty of material to work with if you look at
Demolition Man and Oscar. Personally, though, I never expect him to be some stand-up comic.

As for nimblemarlin17's take on his comedic timing, I think there's plenty of it if you look at

In Demolition Man, it's Snipes who's funny, not him. Come to think of it, the only time I actually laugh at him is in Rocky because he makes such a stupid face throughout the whole movie that it's impossible not to crack a smile.

Rocky, Rambo, Daylight, Cop Land, Tango & Cash, and Cobra are all pretty solid picks 🙏

Inace Sly is great as long as he keeps his mouth shut 😬

Stallone is a total legend, and honestly, every single one of his movies I've sat through has been killer.

Rocky is just on another level... I feel like I could rewatch Rocky over and over again and never get bored of it. You've gotta hand it to Stallone for crafting a character like that; if you ask me, it’s easily the greatest film franchise ever made. Even those weird scenes that would probably feel totally ridiculous in any other movie—like that moment in Rocky III where he's training with Apollo while wearing that questionable black tank top—they don't even feel funny here, they just work...

Rocky is in a league of its own. I could watch Rocky on loop forever and never get bored. Massive respect to Stallone for creating a character like that. I agree with everything you said. Though, I can't say for sure if Rocky is my absolute favorite series. But the first Rocky? That's easily one of the best films ever made, and the sequels aren't bad either. Rocky II and Rocky VI are excellent. Rocky III and IV are solid and fun. Even Rocky V, which everyone loves to hate on, is actually pretty good.

Everything was going fine for me until they started rerunning Rocky everywhere. It doesn't matter what channel I flip to, it's always him 😁...

No matter how much he acts like his face is under local anesthesia—and despite the fact that in the Rocky series, which is centered on boxing, the fights are easily the weakest part—he still edges out Steven Seagal by two lengths. 😬

True, but at least he didn't sink to the level of B-movie garbage like Seagal did.

In case you weren't aware, the guy actually overcame polio, which explains his distinct look and the way he speaks. He also won an Oscar for Rocky, a project he personally wrote and edited for almost the entire series, excluding the very first installment. Personally, I don't think anyone makes better action movies than him; I’ve found nearly all of his work to be excellent. And don't even get me started on Cop Land—in my opinion, that's easily his finest hour.

I love rewatching his movies—obviously, Rocky and Rambo are staples for me. I can put them on a dozen times and they never get old.

A while back, I found myself watching Demolition Man pretty frequently too; honestly, I can't quite put my finger on what made that one so addictive.

Tango & Cash, The Specialist, Cop Land... yeah, they're solid flicks.

They probably hit harder when I was younger, but I still don't mind diving into his stuff today. He delivers good action, and that's exactly what I'm looking for.
