Sandra Reyes said:Is anyone else currently taking this medication?

Dear Emma... I have a boyfriend who takes Tegretol tablets. From what he tells me, he suffered from a type of epilepsy long ago—briefly losing consciousness for about a minute at a time. When he comes to, he struggles to speak clearly; it’s as if his brain is completely clouded, though the condition isn't spreading. He attends his medical appointments regularly. His dosage was two tablets in the morning and evening, but they have recently reduced him to half a tablet. You understand how it is... knowing that my partner relies on this, I find myself worrying. What kind of reactions might occur? There are times when an episode hits and he seems like a completely different person—a stranger to me. Other times, he is perfectly fine, acting normally. Yet, he claims he behaves this way just to test me. Am I right to be afraid? I am terrified. I fear forming a deep commitment to him. Could this behavior be a side effect of the pills, or is it simply his will? I truly do not know. Can anyone please offer some guidance or advice? I am quite frightened. 😢😢😢😢

I’ve officially restarted my routine with Tegretol 200 mg per day, split into two doses.
Honestly, from what I can tell, this is hands down the most effective and easiest medication I’ve ever used. It just works!
It completely settles all that inner chaos!!! 😁

I was prescribed Tegretol for my trigeminal neuralgia... and looking at the research, it seems like this Carbamazepine group is the standard everywhere. I had some side effects too, so I stopped taking it for a few days, but honestly, things just got worse. It feels like everyone is just handed anticonvulsants for neuralgia. Does anyone have any other way they managed to deal with the neuralgia? :/

I was just sitting here thinking about how much life changes when you start adjusting your medications. It’s one of those things you don't really think about until you're right in the thick of it, isn't it? I remember back when I was living in Chicago, I had this one neighbor—bless her heart—who used to tell me that everything in life is just a series of tiny chemical balances. And honestly, looking at my own health journey, she wasn't wrong! Anyway, I wanted to touch on what we were discussing earlier. When you're dealing with stuff like Dilantin, it feels like you're constantly recalibrating your entire existence. One day you feel steady, and the next, you're wondering if you've had too much coffee or if the dosage is just hitting differently. It can be quite overwhelming, truly. But I suppose that's just part of the process, isn't it? Just navigating the ups and downs. Nancy Richardson9 says:
I’ve been on this medication for about six months now... honestly, it feels like forever. I’ve even been taking some herbal supplements for my liver alongside it just to be safe, though I can't help but wonder if that's helping or making things more complicated. But the real issue—the thing that's really getting to me—is the weight. I am gaining weight so incredibly fast; it's like I can see it happening in real-time. It's quite frustrating, actually. Has anyone else out there dealt with this specific side effect? Is it just me, or is this a common thing with this drug?

I suppose I should start by saying that I've been thinking quite a bit about this lately—it’s funny how those thoughts just sort of drift in when you least expect them, like a sudden thunderstorm over the Midwest. I was sitting on my porch the other day, just watching the neighbors go by, and it hit me how much we rely on certain routines to keep our sanity intact. It's all about those small, steady rhythms, isn't it? Anyway, I don't mean to wander off into a long-winded story about my afternoon, but I felt it was important to set the stage. I really believe we need to look closer at what we're discussing here. There's a certain gravity to it that shouldn't be overlooked, even if it feels a bit overwhelming at times. Let's try to stay focused, shall we? Nancy Richardson9 says:
Does anyone here actually take this medication?

Hello everyone... so, I'm the new face around here on this forum. I was just reading up on some of the long-time members—you know, those folks who have been deep in the weeds discussing Dilantin, carbamazepine, and mazepine, or whatever variation of carbapines they call them these days. It’s interesting, really. Back when I was living down in San Diego, the doctors and pharmacists there used to hold the exact same views on all of this. Just thought I'd introduce myself!🙂And in the end, nothing really comes of it... just different manufacturers, different medications, all that hassle. Right now, I’m on Dilantin CR 400 paired with Efthyl, and honestly? I suppose I can say the seizures have let up a little bit. But there's a catch—whenever the weather shifts, I get hit with these massive bouts of dizziness. It feels like my entire system has been thrown completely out of whack. I'm just sitting here feeling lost, truly... I don't even know what the next move is or where I should go to find some actual answers.
