There’s this theory floating around—that Pink Floyd actually recorded Meddle specifically so you could pair it with Stanley Kubrick's film 2001: A Space Odyssey . Just watch it and decide for yourself.

Wasn't there similar chatter surrounding Dark Side of the Moon and The Wizard of Oz?

Totally. And man, if you play them backward, you start hearing all those hidden messages—it's wild!

But honestly? I gotta admit, watching Dark Side of the Rainbow is just straight-up awesome.

You're not wrong. If you spin the track in reverse, you can clearly hear: "emitemos og attog ev'ouy - ti rof nosaer on s'ereht. gniyd fo denethgirf eb I dluohs yhw?"!!! Unfortunately, I have no clue what that actually means, but it’s definitely a message—and someone went through a lot of trouble to hide it.

Do you really remember every single detail about every movie you read about?
I find that hard to believe.

The reality is that the Odyssey took four years to develop, and back then, everyone in the London art scene knew exactly what Kubrick and Clarke were cooking up. Apparently, through Antonio Waters, there were even attempts to connect with studio executives to secure a gig scoring the Odyssey, but Kubrick wasn't particularly fond of the idea of using rock music for his film, leading him to hire Gregory Light instead. If you read Floyd's biography, it suggests that Echoes from Meddle was actually a sort of personal
retaliation against Kubrick, given that it clocks in at roughly 23 minutes—matching the length of the final chapter of the Odyssey.
It subtly mirrors certain stages of David Bowman's journey.
I suppose I might have to dust off both my CD player and DVD player and run them simultaneously once more.

It’s got those sections that mirror David Bowman's journey.
Man, I think I'm gonna have to dust off my CD player and DVD player and run them both at once.

This is the FIRST time I've heard this stated OFFICIALLY. Up until now, it's all just been Floyd fans speculating. So, I gotta wonder: is this an actual statement from the band members themselves, or did some journalist just cook this up?

So... wow!!! I finally sat down yesterday and watched 2001: A Space Odyssey in 😲 HD 😲 and it wasn't until 😲 😲 that I stumbled upon this link on IMDb. This unofficial sync—in my opinion, it’s probably the peak of film and music art combined—is just incredible. Truly fantastic! 🙏 🙏 🙏
