Just got back from the screening. The old man is a straight-up genius.
At the start of the film, he barely knew how to operate a camera, but eventually, he started capturing these incredible little details.
Pure brilliance...
That's all for now, folks. We'll be right back after the break.

...incredible...what a guy, what a movie 😍 😍 😍 😍 😍
...and honestly, when you catch those snippets of his earlier work in the film, you just can't believe your eyes...😍

...here's another one 😍

The King’s new outfit 😍

And that fight scene—which movie was that from again? It feels totally pre-modern by today's standards. I'm honestly obsessed with both the character and the whole vibe.

As for his sisters... and that dazed look on his face when he first wakes up....

...here's another one 😍

...it'll probably show up during the American Film Festival—assuming I can stay patient until April 😘

The scrap between the old woman and her young caretaker is from 'Smells Like Gold and Incense,' and that roadside brawl between those two guys is from 'Justice.' Not sure which fight you mean—small scale or big? 😉

And yeah, there will be a "good morning" at the Dan festival. From what I hear, he might even get a retrospective too (he was awarded an Octavian for his life's work).

...honestly, I was just sitting there yesterday thinking about how long it's been—it really is high time someone put together a proper retrospective on him. That would be pretty incredible 🙂

Watched 🙂
The Game at KIC, if anyone else is still looking for something to do...

And honestly, I’m pretty much on the same page as everyone else regarding their impressions. Right at the start, when that guy begins explaining how to handle the camera, I had this thought—Oh, God, what on earth is this going to turn into? 😁, but it actually turned out to be absolutely darling 🙂
...'Why are you filming?' 'To watch a priest baptize lambs' 🤣

It’s just filled with these beautiful little snapshots, tiny details, and warm vibes—it's about generations, stories of aging, the essence of a city and its people, all woven together with parallels to his other films...
I'm not entirely sure what kind of impact this movie has on people who aren't from NYC, though. It's fascinating how even Washington, D.C., through his lens, feels somewhat more old-fashioned and timeless.
Plus, I love how he fluctuates between appearing like a charmingly confused old man and being completely, piercingly lucid 🙂

I’ve only ever seen Birch from his filmography, but now I’m actually feeling the urge to sit down for a full retrospective. To me, that fight scene they quoted is pure avant-garde 🙂

Man of few words.

If I ever end up unemployed, I'll just binge the whole retrospective...

Oh, right, it slipped my mind... Henry Campbell5 already pointed out how the director basically didn't even know how to operate a camera when the film started, yet somehow evolved to capture those hyper-specific details over time. It’s that transition from a raw, documentary-style realism into such a powerful, symbolic, and deeply cinematic final frame. Honestly, you have to hand it to him.

The movie was scheduled for 11:30 PM just an hour ago. Hmm... That's strange.

But the content from that replacement documentary is buried in there somewhere. 😬
