3D Movies: Yay or Nay?

Hey there.

I’ve watched every single SAW movie, and now I see online that Saw 7 3D is coming out.
I actually called the Broadway theater in Miami to see if they were screening it, but they told me NO.

Now I want to download the film, but I’m wondering how I can get the right glasses to watch it in 3D at home.

Any advice?

You'll need an expensive 3D TV and a compatible player. You can't just torrent it and watch it on a standard monitor.

Wait, seriously?! They’re really not bringing it here?? I can't believe it... and I've been waiting forever... but oh well, once City Center One opens up, they should probably get an AMC Theatres running too, and then we could actually catch that movie in other cities.

I honestly thought people would’ve figured this out by now—there's a massive difference between that old-school anaglyph 3D junk and the actual digital stuff they show in theaters today. :S

I don't know, man. It's kinda weird that they aren't playing it in Miami when it's been running in Washington, D.C. at AMC Theatres for like two weeks already.
There’s one at AMC Šibenik, so maybe just hop over there.🙂)

It's pretty funny that it's showing in San Diego and Savannah but not in Miami. But hey, hang tight, I'm sure it'll show up eventually.

Honestly, why is everyone spreading such nonsense? You can watch any 3D movie you download via torrent right at home on a 3D monitor with glasses—you can find them on Craigslist for $17. I used to watch movies from rental stores using regular DVDs and those old paper 3D glasses. Let's not spread misinformation; if you couldn't watch 3D torrents on a plasma or LCD screen at home, there would be no point in even having them.

It can’t be done on a regular TV with special glasses or anything else.
But you might get a Blu-ray player with some cheap anaglyph 3D red/Blue glasses that CAN give a somewhat cool effect on a standard TV, though it isn't true 3D.

Here is the deal: you clearly haven't experienced true 3D in a theater before. Try this instead: head over to a tech store like Best Buy, Gordon Ramsay, or Ellipsa. They all have display models. Just put the glasses on and watch a clip for a few minutes. You'll quickly realize the kind of 3D we're actually talking about.

That isn't actual 3D. I have the Coraline Blu-ray and it came with cardboard glasses too, but the whole experience is just cheap and looks terrible.

Sure, but what format was that movie actually in? I'm betting it wasn't some high-quality torrent or a DivX file.
And as for those red and blue glasses... that isn't "real" 3D like what they show in modern theaters like AMC Theatres (though honestly, even AMC isn't quite perfect compared to an actual IMAX theater, but it's still pretty decent).

Heh, I still have this vivid memory from back in '95 or '96 when we went to see Freddy Krueger in 3D at the local AMC Theatres... they handed us those red and blue glasses, and honestly, even after all this time, I guess I still haven't quite figured out what the point of them actually was.😁

It doesn't really accomplish much, honestly. It’s just a cheap imitation of actual 3D.
So, anyone watching a movie like that—you know, using those "red/blue" glasses—they basically walk away thinking they actually saw real 3D.
