How to make an instrumental from a song?

Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a bind here and could really use some software recommendations for stripping vocals out of a track to leave just the instrumental... or, if that’s too much to ask, maybe something that can at least dampen the vocals enough so someone could sing over it effectively. My sister signed up for this local talent show, but they basically sent her home because she didn't have her own backing track ready to go. 👎 If none of that is doable, does anyone know of a tool that can actually convert an audio song into a MIDI file ????

What exactly are you looking for? That section has everything from karaoke and MIDI files to backing tracks and more.
What kind of music are you after, or specifically, which song do you need the backing track for?

I think his goal is to isolate the instrumental track from a song, essentially stripping away the vocals to leave just the melody behind.

Download Audacity. If you split the stereo track and set both individual tracks to mono, you can just select the bottom one and hit invert. That should do the trick, I guess, provided the vocals aren't buried under too many heavy effects.
