Laparoscopic cyst removal: What to expect?

I realize there might be similar discussions floating around from a while back, but I’m facing a bit of a dilemma right now and was hoping I could turn to you all for some advice.

To give you some context... I'm 22 years old, and I was recently told that I have a 6 cm cyst on my right ovary. My doctor suspects it's an endometrioma, though she isn't entirely certain for some reason, which is a little unsettling. It covers a significant portion of the ovary, and she mentioned that there's a possibility the entire ovary might need to be removed, though we won't truly know for sure until I'm actually in surgery.

I'm wondering if there is any other way to get a clearer picture of what we're dealing with before then? I don't have children, I'm still quite young, and the idea of losing an ovary is something I really want to avoid. I’d much rather have some clarity now instead of waiting until I'm on the operating table to find out the outcome.

If anyone here has gone through something similar, or if you could recommend any highly regarded specialists or doctors, I would be so incredibly grateful for your help...

I actually had one myself, but mine was a textbook case 😬 , measuring about 5x2 inches, and I ended up donating it to my university medical school 🤣
I went in for a laparoscopy too, but they actually had to perform an open surgery because they couldn't get it out through the small incisions. It wasn't the end of the world—they managed to save my ovary—but they still have to remove it since it’s completely non-functional now. I honestly don't know when that's happening because I haven't had the time to deal with the scheduling lately. They told me I won't know for sure why it lost its function until after they actually take it out.
They told me the exact same thing before my surgery—that they weren't sure if they'd need to remove the ovary or not. I was terrified at the time, but looking back, I wish they had just taken it out then; it would have saved me so much trouble right now. Besides, how many women can actually conceive with just one ovary?
After the procedure, I got these incredible photos, though I unfortunately lost them while I was still at the hospital (which sucks, I'm so sorry). Seeing everything so clear, the ovaries... man, it was absolutely fascinating to see!
The incision itself didn't really hurt, and I was already back on my bike after two weeks, but let me tell you, the leftover gas was pure hell. My chest, my lungs, everything was aching like crazy!
