Issues with lentils

My own prescription used to jump around in waves—it would stay steady for a few years and then suddenly spike. It's been pretty stable since my late 20s or early 30s.
But for my little one, it hasn't changed in years. She's 18 now, but she stopped growing a long time ago—I think she barely grew an inch after she turned 12!

I’ve been wearing soft contact lenses for several years now. I know my prescription shouldn't just jump up on its own, but something feels genuinely off lately. My eyes feel incredibly strained, almost like I'm constantly squinting... just constant tension around the sockets. I have a TV in my room, and usually, I can read the subtitles easily while lying down, but now it’s a real struggle. I can't tell if my prescription actually increased—it feels like I'm missing maybe 0.25 in each eye just to get things sharp—or if it's something else entirely. I find myself having to blink hard just to try and "clear" the image. I'm really hoping it's just an issue with my current lenses and that they simply need replacing. My prescription is quite high, so even a tiny change makes a massive difference to me...

Isn't this just a hygiene issue? Are you using those protein tablets? Or maybe your lenses need a good polish somewhere? Do you actually change your solution on a regular basis?

I honestly feel pretty guilty about my contact lenses. I was just sitting here thinking about how I fell asleep in them tonight without even giving them a proper wash first... 😠

And I don't take any pills. Nobody at the hospital ever brought that up with me. To be honest, I don't even know what those are 🙂

It might just be a cleanliness issue. I’m going to try cleaning them out and see if that makes a difference. Honestly, I can't stand wearing them... no matter how much I rinse them, they still feel scratchy and the filling just feels off.

It happens to me too. I wasn't even using tablets—hardly use them now either—until a few months back. Just head to a CVS or Walgreens and ask for contact lens cleaning tablets; they likely come from the same manufacturer as the solutions. You can use them once a month. Just drop them into the solution with your lenses overnight...

As for everything else... 😁 I assume you know the drill. Lenses need their eight hours of rest in clean solution every single night... (I suppose minor deviations are fine 😁 until you start feeling the consequences, which is exactly what's happening now).

If you're feeling that stinging sensation after cleaning and everything... swap out the solution immediately. Change brands... right now. You don't want to end up seriously messing things up for yourself.

What products are you using?

I’ve been sticking with some UnitedHealth Group stuff. That all-in-one solution is actually pretty great... keeps them stored and rinses them out all at once. The only thing is the shampoo doesn't really sit right with me. Who knows why... I used to have those massive liter bottles from some private clinic where I first got my contacts. Thankfully, I finally ditched all of that—the awkward bottles and the poorly made lenses included. Now I just use the standard ones from the drugstore, and honestly, I’m perfectly happy with them.🙂

I use UnitedHealth Group too... 🤔 I keep one set specifically for storage and another just for cleaning... I always rinse them with water before they ever touch my eyes, so I've never had any issues.

The label says it right there: a solution for disinfecting, storing, and hydrating all types of hard and soft gas-permeable contact lenses... When I first got them, my specialist just handed them over to me directly. It was all pretty new to me too. 🙂

I went to clean my lenses. At first, things felt a bit off 😁... almost like they were brand new, though it’s hard to tell for sure since my eyes are exhausted from staring at the computer screen all day—plus, I actually slept in them. I can't wait to finally take them out. I have glasses, but I honestly hate wearing them; I just feel so out of sorts without my contacts. It’s been quite a transition. On top of that, even though the prescription is spot on, my vision feels blurry through them... probably just my eyes struggling to adjust to the lenses.

Just wanted to let you know... it really was just eye strain. I managed to sleep for about 11 hours, so my eyes finally got some decent rest. No issues at all now 🙂

I have a quick question for the group. I recently ordered contact lenses through an Epic Systems clinic, and they were delivered by mail to my home outside of NYC. To my absolute horror, they arrived tucked inside a random bottle of Complete solution rather than in their original, factory-sealed packaging. ;To me, this feels incredibly unprofessional. Not only did I wait an entire month for them—despite being told it would only take a week—but it feels like they could just toss literally anything in the mail. When you purchase any product, let alone a medical device, you expect it to arrive properly packaged. That’s what guarantees the item is new, undamaged, unused, and actually what you ordered in the first place. Has anyone else dealt with something similar?

I honestly have no clue. Maybe someone else here might know.

For my first pair of lenses, I just paid out of pocket. But I went to pick them up myself... I can't even remember how they were delivered.
The next ones were covered by my insurance since my prescription is so high, and they were mailed straight to me from Washington, D.C. They arrived in those flimsy plastic cases. Not much to report there... I ended up buying a proper case anyway.
