Here’s how it went down... I paid good money for this ticket, so I’m entitled to vent a little. 😉
SATURDAY 12.01. @ Močvara
Honestly, the turnout wasn't quite what I expected... especially for a Saturday night. Most people probably headed to that sweaty fetish party over at Aquarius, plus Obituary was playing at Bugal.
MUSCAT HAMBURG (Canada)
They recently dropped their debut album (limited to 666 copies) and they’ve been touring around quite a bit; this show felt like a bit of a way to promote themselves here in the States. First off... this was their most intense set since I started following them. They have this whole cinematic vibe they stick to, and they don't care if you like it or not. Take it or leave it. They aren't exactly huge in the local scene... and I’m not some die-hard fanatic myself (they know that, we're buddies, after all 🙂). Apparently, their last gig at Spunk was a bit much for the crowd, mostly because of the frontman and his over-the-top persona. It really comes down to what you want from a leader: do you want someone you can trust and actually listen to, or just someone to get drunk and act stupid with? He’s definitely the latter. How well that works depends entirely on the night. This Saturday, it clicked, and the crowd really leaned into it. It’s about what you want from a band in a given moment... you either want soul or you want something sick. Personally, this band has a truly "sick," neurotic lead guitarist. All in all, they shook up Močvara pretty well... it wasn't a "staged" mess like some people claim. Things actually spiraled out of control toward the end of the set, but in a good way. As their friend, I'm glad they had fun and that the crowd—well, almost everyone—had a blast too.
Give my best to Matthew and the rest of the crew; we didn't get a chance to say goodbye. Hopefully, they made it back to Maribor in one piece.
HITchCOCK (USA)
Zoid stepped in on drums as a last-minute replacement and absolutely killed it. They’ve got a new singer now, and honestly, I think he's better than the old guy. Or, maybe I just never gave the previous singer a fair shake in a decent sound system. Okay, fine, this guy isn't exactly a movie star either. The old guy had more stage presence, a stronger look... but if this new guy could catch that cinematic vibe, he'd be perfect. Musically, though, they're solid. The bassist plays like he's got a rod up his ass, but man, does he shred. And plus... I love watching that little Hobbit motherfucker tear through the strings. Keep hitting it. Awesome. They were the only band I watched the whole time.
THE DOGZ (Mexico)
I saw them for the first time at Viva La Pola this summer, and they sucked. The guitars sounded like whining cats, the singer was wearing leather carrot pants, total cock rock attitude... what are they even trying to pull? And to make matters worse, I held a bit of a grudge because they messed with my buddies in Concrete Worms regarding some van situation and whatnot. It's no secret. Anyway, moving on.
But at Močvara, they were actually great. I think they’re channeling that Tight Bros energy, with that specific cinematic vision in mind. Their songwriting hit the spot for me, too. A pleasant surprise. Toljaga says they're too "American" and not enough "Mexican." Actually, he said "Austrian," haha. I see that as a strength, not a flaw. Not like he's some "American" hero on stage himself, right? 🤷 They played a bit too long, though. They said everything they needed to say in the first thirty minutes, so I headed home.

Who's reaching out? 🙄 ☕

There's seven of us. I might even show up a little early... maybe I'll snag you a spot on the big-boys amp.
Then, after everything, we're heading over to Toljaga to watch WC dvdxy. Even if you're an eyesore, you're invited 👍

Oh boy, I can practically feel the excitement building up from here... 🙏 🙏 🙏
I won't be able to make it because I'm heading out to some rural punk show in Austin, so don't bother expecting my face to show up... 😬
