Alcohol allergy?

It’s the same thing that’s been bothering me. I’ve got plenty of years under my belt, and I’ve been drinking since 7 a.m., but recently, after we spent the whole night knocking back Jägermeister, I suddenly broke out in these spots all over my face, neck, and arms... It’s not actually a big deal to me personally, but people around me won't stop making comments...

Think of it this way—your immune system kicks specific cells into gear to churn out immunoglobulin antibodies to fight off what it perceives as an "invader." But here’s the kicker: that invader doesn't necessarily have to be the alcohol itself. It could easily be something else hiding in the drink, like wheat, sugar, sulfur dioxide, and so on.
Then you’ve got aldehyde dehydrogenase, which is basically the enzyme responsible for helping your body break down alcohol after you've had a few. The thing is, some people are actually born with a defect in that enzyme... among other things. There are just so many different moving parts when it comes to why someone might be allergic to alcohol.

Those guys over at Schweppes probably tossed in some ingredient that just doesn't sit right with you. Maybe try mixing vodka with something else instead, or if that fails, just grab a different drink altogether.

I’m actually dealing with this exact same thing myself. Every time I have even a little bit of soda, these spots just start breaking out all over my face... does anyone know if there's a way to prevent this? Or something else, I don't even know anymore.

Is this even possible? I’m sipping on some red wine like I usually do when I suddenly start sneezing. I just ignore it and keep going. Then I wake up the next morning with swollen lips and this itchy sensation all over my back and stomach. It happened again last night, except I wasn't drinking wine—it was a Cabernet. Any idea how to fix this? 🤔
