Recovery after catheterization

Woke up this morning and was already at the ER within half an hour. Kidney stones.
Since they needed a urine sample and I couldn't exactly produce anything after chugging two and a half liters of saline, they went ahead and put a catheter in me.

Fast forward a few hours, flushed out about a liter of fluid, and finally got to pee on my own. It was absolute torture.
Is there any way to fix this? I have to drink massive amounts of water, which means I'm constantly running to the bathroom, and I absolutely hate it. Can anyone suggest something to make the stinging stop?

Try sipping on some cranberry and parsley tea—honestly, the parsley part tastes pretty nasty, but it does wonders for soothing your throat mucosa 👍

Your only real option is to stay hydrated—stick to herbal tea rather than black tea.
It should pass in a few days. 😉

They needed a urine sample, so they just went ahead and used a catheter—all sorts of things. Honestly, what possessed you to let them use such a crude method? You can see for yourself now that you're dealing with all this pain because of an unnecessary catheterization, all because someone couldn't be bothered to wait. You could have simply told them you wouldn't tolerate it; they should have given you time to just hold it until you were able to go naturally.

If I were in your shoes, I’d sit down and write a formal letter to the director of the facility where this happened to complain about their procedure. I’d send a carbon copy to Medicare as well. If the director doesn't get back to you within a week, you send another letter to him, CCing Medicare again, and just keep at it. In theory, you might even have grounds for a lawsuit regarding malpractice or improper examination.

This reminds me of that old thread about catheters, where some folks from Seattle were claiming the whole thing was painless and perfectly safe. Yeah, right. What a joke.

And this all went down at 10 PM. Before that, back at 11 AM.
Before they even put the catheter in, they pumped me full of 2.5 liters of saline.
With the help of the catheter, they filled one test tube and managed to pull out enough fluid to probably fill another one for all I know.
Given how bad things were yesterday, they told me there's a chance I won't be able to pee on my own, and if that happens, I need to head straight to the ER overnight.

Honestly, they should probably sue them for malpractice or whatever.

The people who handled me yesterday—from the EMTs in Seattle to the ER staff at the big city hospital—were actually great. Total praise. I was seen in less than a minute, which means they took me in immediately, they were super attentive, etc.
But look, I was literally begging for relief, needing 100 mg of Dolophine, and I’m not someone with a low pain tolerance or a drama queen about every little ache. So, I was definitely NOT in the mood for anyone's BS.

Look, it hurt for a second when they put it in and a second when they pulled it out.
And since I’m chugging tea by the gallon and running to the bathroom every five minutes, my urine is so diluted it barely even stings anymore. 🙂

You’re clearly sitting there in pain now because of some unnecessary catheterization that happened just because someone was too impatient to wait. You could have just told them straight up: "No way am I doing that." Tell them to give you more time, and you can just hold it until you're actually able to go.

Look, they didn't put the cath in for that reason... nah, makes no sense. You're totally overthinking this. 🙂

Forget the glass. They didn't even bother with that. First, they hauled that basin right up to my bed while I was still hurting like hell from the surgery. Then, they just left the damn thing sitting on the toilet so I could sit on it—saving me from having to mess around with a glass when my hands are shaking too much to hold anything.
