I’ve already got a stomach ulcer—so great. And honestly? I’m really not looking forward to a doctor’s visit... I already know exactly what they're going to lecture me about: quit smoking and cut back on the coffee. Look, a woman has every right to her habits, but I just don't have the patience for the finger-wagging—especially since I'm fully aware of the consequences myself.
Basically, I brought this on myself, so there's really no point in complaining.😁

I mean, sure, they have a right to say it, but I just can't deal with being preached at when I already know all of this myself.
So basically, it's my own fault, so there's no point in complaining, right?😁

The thing is, you could end up getting it in your esophagus too...

I honestly don't know, I’m really no expert on this stuff so you should probably check with a doctor if you want the real deal... though maybe a specialist would be better. Certain foods can definitely trigger acid reflux—think spicy stuff, citrus, all that—and then obviously smoking or drinking too much won't help either. If you're dealing with heartburn at night, try propping yourself up with an extra pillow so you aren't lying totally flat... it helps keep things down. Also, try not to eat anything right before you hit the hay. And look, if you're a woman, seriously, go see a doctor... women tend to deal with reflux less frequently than men, so it's worth getting checked out...

A massive number of doctors kick off an exam by asking one thing: "Do you smoke?"
If you do, boom—diagnosis complete. It's all "it's from the smoking."
I had some liver issues once and paid out of pocket for a private specialist. As soon as he heard I smoked, he immediately diagnosed me with high blood pressure and wrote a script for meds. My liver went straight to the back burner because apparently, "this lady smokes, so she must have high BP. She'll die if she doesn't treat it."
Since my blood pressure didn't feel high, and I realized I'd be stuck on these pills forever, I just quit taking them on my own. My pressure stayed totally normal, and even my liver enzymes stabilized within two years—all without ever actually finding out what was wrong in the first place (every single test came back negative).
My husband hasn't touched a cigarette in five years, yet he’s still living on Pepcid.
And since he's got extra testosterone to maintain his ego, he refuses to go for a gastroscopy. They basically murder you in there, right? 😲 😲
Look, since you're a woman, just go get checked out and lie about the smoking. Maybe then they'll actually give you a fair shake.

I’ve been dealing with my fair share of stomach acid issues lately—usually just knocking it back with some Pepcid or Tums, or if things are really hitting the fan, a little baking soda.

The other day at CVS, my pharmacist gave me a single piece of advice amidst a sea of clinical nonsense regarding acid reflux: apparently, I should start my mornings by drinking half a squeezed lemon mixed into a bit of lukewarm water.👍 Now, I’m sure some self-proclaimed health guru is going to jump into the comments and trash this "recipe" like it’s some kind of dangerous pseudoscience😬 but honestly? It actually works for me. In fact, during those stretches where I actually have the discipline to stick to it, my acid problems pretty much vanish...🙂

Look, lemon juice isn't a bad call. My mom swears by apples, my sister relies on milk... personally, sometimes a bit of fizz helps—maybe some sparkling water or a Coke—or just a couple of ounces of syrup, and then I get a massive burp that🙂 actually does the trick.

crimsonpuma48, I know smokers use it as an excuse for everything—just so doctors can get rid of us faster. I show up with bronchitis (which I've had since birth) and they say it's the cigarettes; I have heartburn—it's the cigarettes; dizzy spells—again, blame the cigarettes🙄 once I finally deal with this heartburn, I'll have much bigger health issues to worry about, so this isn't exactly my top priority right now

P.S. If you're dealing with that burning sensation in bed, you absolutely have to sleep on your left side—it seriously works. When I sleep like that, it’s great, but if I roll over even a little bit, the burning comes right back...

Reminds me of that joke going around college campuses lately... they say if you can't solve the math problem, just take the derivative... 😁

Looks like doctors are pulling the same stunt... 😉

I get this issue about every two or three months, and it usually hangs around for three or four days before clearing up. I don't think it's stress-related, at least that's how it feels to me.

Now, whenever those cravings hit—like once every six months—I just grab two pickles and boom, problem solved in five minutes.

Honestly? As soon as I buy a jar of pickles, I polish off the whole thing immediately. They never even make it into my fridge!

Man, I get hit with a month of heartburn once a year.
Every single day.
What am I looking at here?

Check your DMs; I sent over some info on a herbal tea from a local wellness brand that works wonders for digestion and stomach issues. It’s great for cleansing the system and boosting overall health, too... I've been drinking it after lunch to help manage my gastritis, and it really makes a difference. I actually heard about it through a recommendation from a woman on a popular lifestyle podcast who said she can't live without it!

Yeah, I’m joining the club. My acid reflux has been acting up like crazy lately—nausea, stomach pain, the whole deal... all because my nerves are shot. I’m super sensitive to stress, and my gut just reacts immediately. Interestingly, I don't have any ulcers (I had a GI specialist check me out about three years ago when this crap first started, maybe things shifted since then). The thing is, I’ve got zero appetite and my upper stomach is killing me. Now I’m stuck getting a mountain of tests done, and looks like an endoscopy is on the menu too. My doctor told me today to just pick up some Pepcid... thought I’d never be the type to use stuff like that.
Anyone know if there are different forms I should take? (If there are multiple versions, I remember those different types of shampoos, though I doubt it works the same way here)

It’s a common issue that people often link to bacteria, though more often than not, it's just pure stress. I've found that sticking to lighter meals with minimal seasoning helps—stay away from alcohol, smoking, and anything carbonated. It seems to flare up most during the spring and fall transitions. Initially, Tums works well enough (the peppermint flavor isn't half bad), but if things get more intense, you might need something stronger like Pepcid or Prilosec.

A friend of mine is dealing with some excess stomach acid—she actually has that one specific bacterium, though I can't recall the name right now—and she says sticking to things like crackers, white rice, white bread, and iced teas helps her out. She’ll throw in some chard and fish occasionally too, I suppose. 😬
So, since she's avoiding whole grain pasta and whole wheat bread along with a ton of other stuff, I was wondering if anyone else here deals with similar issues? Does anyone know which foods might actually help dial back that acid level?
Ideally, she should probably just see a nutritionist, but honestly, she's been struggling with this for three or four years now, so I'm not sure she'll ever actually make the appointment. 👎

Well, I am certainly not the only one dealing with this! 🙂
The heartburn can get so incredibly intense—honestly, so violent—that I feel like I could strike myself over the head with something just to make the sensation stop... It is truly unbearable. I have tried just about everything at this point—currently, I am relying on Tums tablets, though Pepcid used to work quite well for me. Baking soda is my absolute last resort, strictly for when I am in total desperation and nothing else is available.

That being said, I am fully aware that this has been dragging on far too long, and eventually, I am going to have to face the music—schedule a specialist appointment, undergo a gastroscopy, the whole ordeal...

I am curious if anyone here has actually gone through a gastroscopy and can tell me what the experience is really like. To be perfectly honest, the whole thing sounds absolutely terrifying!

So, here's my weird situation: even though I'm totally full, my stomach just won't stop growling. Like, seriously. It starts rumbling way before I'm even hungry, and honestly, it keeps going even after I’ve finished a meal! It makes zero sense. Sometimes it just starts making noise for no reason at all. I've been telling myself I'll go see a doctor about it forever, but I just keep putting it off. Ugh, typical me, right? Has anyone else dealt with this annoying stomach drama? What did you guys end up doing? 🤔
