Does anyone happen to know a good way I could stitch two (somewhat larger) .avi files together into one single file, just so I can have the whole movie as one continuous piece?

And would you mind walking me through exactly which settings I should be messing with? To be honest, I’m still pretty much a total novice when it comes to using Adobe Premiere.

Simple Video Merger

It doesn't get any easier than this...

Open up your video in Adobe Premiere, go to file>append avi segment, and just drop the second clip in there. Set both the video and audio to direct stream copy—and you're all set.

Thanks so much, friend! I actually gave that a shot just now and it worked like a charm—everything turned out perfectly! 👍

Alright, can I throw one more question out there?

So, I’m downloading these eight AVI segments from a file-sharing site—you know the drill, they come split up as avi.001, 002, 003, and so on. When I try using File->Append AVI Segment and select the next chunk—which, mind you, I already renamed so it just ends in .avi instead of those little numbers—it hits me with an error: "Invalid avi file - not a riff file." It’s like the software is looking at it and just seeing gibberish.

Where do I go from here?

They’re most likely just standard zip or rar files rather than actual avi videos... try clicking on the first one, right-click, and hit "extract here."

I already went ahead and renamed them, but I’ll give it another shot just to be sure. Thanks for the heads-up. Only issue is—and you know how this goes—it looks like they don't actually have that extension included.

They aren't rar/zip files at all... it goes like this—Ice.Age.2.The.Meltdown.avi.001

So, if I rename them to .avi, I can get them to run in Adobe Premiere, but I can't actually merge them together. And they won't play in anything else either—not VLC, not Windows Media Player, nothing.
Actually, Winamp tries to open them, but it just sits there spinning the play/stop button like it's stuck in a loop.
Anyone got a fix for this?

So, I’ve downloaded these eight segments from Mega—you know, the ones labeled avi.001, 002, 003, and so on. But here’s the kicker: when I try to go into File -> Append avi segment and select the next part (which I went ahead and renamed so it just ends in .avi without those extra numbers), the software throws an error at me! It says "Invalid avi file - not a riff file." Isn't that just frustrating?

What's the move here?

If you don't have this specific tool yet, you should probably grab it—it's called hjsplit. If you run those segments through that, you ought to be able to stitch them together properly, and then everything should work just fine!

So, if I just rename them to .avi, I can watch them in Adobe Premiere, but I can't merge them back together. And I definitely can't play them in any other player, like VLC or whatever else is out there.
Actually, Winamp tries to open them, but it just sits there spinning the play/stop button endlessly!

Those are split archive files, and you'll need to use a program like hjsplit—you can find it right here. Once you join those files back together, everything should work perfectly fine again.
