Does anyone know if there are actually any facial exercises out there?

I mean—specifically to help slim down the fat layer and maybe sharpen up my facial features?

Heh, I’ve been giving it my best shot for years now,

but honestly? All I’ve managed to pick up are some wrinkles around my eyes.

It’s basically the only part of me that isn't perfectly streamlined—I really wish I could just get some actual facial structure... you know, something where you can actually tell where the jawline begins.

Specifically ones to help reduce facial fat and sharpen those features?

I wonder if you’re referring to that segment George Michael was talking about on TV recently. He was raving about this one doctor, swearing by the results; apparently, you can see the difference quite clearly if you just work one side of your face at a time. (Though I certainly hope your features stay perfectly symmetrical! 😁 )

To answer your actual question: I honestly have no idea what those exercises look like.😁
However, given how much I tend to laugh, talk, and generally make ridiculous faces all day long, I imagine I’ve probably covered every possible muscle movement already, so I likely won't need them.😁

I honestly haven't the slightest clue what George Michael was getting at—but whatever he said, I’m inclined to believe it's spot on...🙂

As for this whole X and O thing, it’s perfectly fine by me; it’s just that people seem to think I’ve completely lost my marbles...🙂 They don't really grasp the logic behind it, but hey, let them wonder—as long as there's a method to my madness, that's all that matters, right?

Does anyone else have any bright ideas?

Stand in front of a mirror and just go wild—make every single face you can think of. Watch which muscles actually twitch... basically, just do some facial gymnastics until you've worked every single one of them.

To burn fat and sharpen the jawline...

Plenty of them exist.

Facial yoga for a more youthful look.

Judging people by their looks is usually just pure prejudice, but there’s a grain of truth to it: if you spend your whole life scowling and acting like a jerk, it’s eventually going to show. Give it enough time and those "grumpy lines" will be etched permanently into your face.

Your face, neck, and scalp are basically just ten different muscle groups working together—covering everything from your forehead and eyes to your cheeks, mouth, beard area, and neck. It makes sense, really: the skin sitting on top of those muscles stretches and tightens depending on how much you move them and how often you use them.

The end result of all this? You start out young with tight muscles and elastic skin, but as the years roll by, the skin starts sagging, dries out, and the muscle just wastes away.

If you’re smoking like a chimney, eating garbage, and running on zero sleep, don't bother. No amount of gym sessions, massages, or expensive skincare is going to save you.

Slowly but surely, we're all going to start relaxing.

It contributes to that skinny trend everyone’s chasing. On one hand, it's fine—nobody wants to be carrying extra weight when they hit their later years. But on the flip side, being way too thin just leaves you looking gaunt, and having a hollow, fragile face isn't exactly the look most people are going for.

We’ve all seen it. People with a healthy weight—or even just a few extra pounds—tend to keep that "round," full look for longer. It keeps the face looking tight and youthful. But once women hit a certain age and get really thin, they quickly lean into that "witchy" look. You know the one.

The face doesn't even look "youthfully thin" anymore; it just looks gaunt, like the skin is starting to sag. On a face like that, the nose really stands out—it looks skinny, narrow, and somehow longer than it used to be back in the day. Hence the whole witch comparison.

Sure, some controversial plastic surgery could pretty much fix the whole situation, but most people can't afford it—and honestly, most wouldn't even touch it.

If you don't quit smoking for good, your workouts are basically a waste of time.

Most people freak out when they see the first signs of aging, but they usually find a way to deal with it.

Look, let's skip the deep philosophy. It’s just common sense: getting old is inevitable, just like being young was. But you don't have to go through it like a wreck. If you actually take some easy, cheap steps now—like hitting the gym or just eating decent food—you can slow the whole process down and at least look like you aren't falling apart.

Look, you can't fight genetics. Some people are just born looking old, while others carry that baby face forever. But you can definitely work the muscles in your scalp, face, and neck just like any other muscle group. Consistent training bumps up your muscle tone, and having good tone basically gives you that naturally firm look—tighter skin, fewer wrinkles, and an overall younger vibe. It even makes you look more bright, relaxed, and optimistic.

Daily facial exercises only take about five to ten minutes. Just do them in front of a mirror and hit each move ten times. Don't be embarrassed by making stupid faces at yourself—just lock the door. Honestly, if you can poke a little fun at yourself, these "face gymnastics" can actually turn into a pretty decent comedy routine.

Forehead: just relax and smooth out those brows. Put your left index finger on your forehead right above the left eyelid, and your right one above the right—just below the brow line. Now, pull your fingers down while simultaneously trying to lift your eyebrows. That’s what triggers those forehead muscles.

Eyes: try lifting your lower lids without moving your upper ones. Easier said than done, I know, but it’s a solid way to prevent those tiny crow's feet from showing up.

3. Face: Shape your mouth into an exaggerated "O," pushing your lips out as far as they'll go. While holding that shape, flash your widest possible grin. Hold it for one second, then snap back to the "O" again. Wait another second, and just keep cycling through that until you've hit ten reps.

4. Lips: Put your index finger (up to the first knuckle) in your mouth and suck in as hard as you can. Slowly pull the air out.

5. Neck and Jaw: Look straight into the mirror. Use your index finger and thumb to press against the base of your neck. At the same time, tilt your head up and use your fingers to pull the skin on your neck downward to get a good stretch.

If you do this regularly, you’ll see some pretty wild results over time—but smoking is going to mess with your progress. Cut back on the cigarettes or, better yet, quit entirely. It's not just about your health; it's about looking good too.

Does anyone actually know how to "widen the jawline" to get that more square, broader look?

I've actually been looking into this for a few months now (whenever I remember), but I haven't really committed to anything seriously enough to say whether it actually works or not. 😵

The current beauty standard usually involves high cheekbones, a sharp jawline, a slim and straight nose, full lips, big eyes, facial symmetry, and thick hair to frame everything.

The oval face shape isn't the top tier anymore. It's been replaced by the square look (though obviously, not every square face looks good). In the modeling industry today, models with defined jaws pretty much rule.

Maybe you haven't noticed it before, but lately, the jawline is the first thing I notice on women. 😁

I read online that some people with bruxism end up developing a wider jaw.

There's an example photo on a site about bruxism here:

http://www.holistic-healing-informat...-grinding.html

There's also another article about someone's experience with bruxism titled “Grinding my teeth gave me a square jaw.”

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/ar...nks-Botox.html

Basically, the woman had been dealing with bruxism since she was a kid, which caused her lower jaw muscles to overdevelop, giving her a wider jawline. No mouthguard from her dentist could stop the grinding. Only Botox helped relax those muscles and slim her face down.

One comment on that article goes:
I've got bruxism - which has led to worn down teeth. The orthodontist who saw me immediately knew before he even took an X-ray - - because of the square jaw-line. I won't be taking botox though - being a bloke, I quite like the look!

I only brought up the bruxism thing to show how important muscle plays a role. If you tell a random person they can change their jaw shape just through muscle exercises, they'll think you're crazy 🙄 (I've seen that reaction plenty of times in these threads). But on the flip side, it's common knowledge that muscles affect body shape and even the density of the bones they sit on. It’s well known that tennis players have denser bone in their dominant arm.

Jaw muscles get their workout through chewing, clenching, and stuff like that. Plus, when your mouth is open, those jaw muscles are totally relaxed—which is a huge difference from when your mouth is shut.

Orthodontic treatment can actually change how wide your jaw looks.

If you check out this link, there’s an absolutely fascinating photo halfway down a long article showing a girl going through different stages of wearing braces:
http://claimingpower.com/starecta-vs-orthotropics/

The issue here is that her orthodont focused strictly on making her teeth look straight, while completely ignoring how her whole face would look.
In the second photo (when she looked her best), she had just finished using a Biobloc Stage 3 appliance, which basically trains kids to keep their mouths closed all the time. After that, she just wore fixed braces, which actually makes kids chew even less because they become too sensitive to hard foods.

Here’s another article about how the Biobloc Stage 3 affects facial development:

A quick tip for maintaining jaw posture:
“Lips together, teeth together, tongue on the roof of your mouth. (And chew more—stop breathing through your mouth)”

Does chewing gum actually help build jaw muscle?
Most people who have chewed regularly for years swear their jawline looks wider because of it. But there’s a small group that confuses me—maybe 5-10% say they chewed for hours every single day for years and saw absolutely zero change.
If you’re going to do it, go for something tough. You want heavy-duty stuff like Bankruptcy gum or Mastiha. Mastiha is definitely the harder one.
Here’s my experience with Mastiha:
http://claimingpower.com/jaw-muscle-workout/

I tried the Mastiha, and honestly, I found it pretty gross (it's just natural tree resin). I had to rinse off all the grit, and even then, it felt like I was chewing something that wasn't quite "clean." After my first time chewing it in the morning, I woke up with a sore throat and wondered if it was some leftover bacteria on the resin. I gave it one more shot, but this time it just stuck to my teeth like superglue. I tossed the whole box after that. Bankruptcy gum is much more of a processed "industrial" gum, so you probably wouldn't deal with those issues, but I didn't feel like ordering it.

I'm not really a gum person anyway. I can only chew it after a meal; otherwise, my stomach starts acting up. I assume it's just stomach acid that I don't usually notice.
When you chew gum, you produce a lot of saliva and stomach acid, but since no actual food is entering the stomach... chewing gum can increase the risk of gastritis. If you do chew, make sure it's strictly after eating.

As for me, I've given up on chewing gum entirely.

Here’s a tip I found pretty interesting:
my jawline has improved after a week at the gym. also eat less salty foods, drink water!!!!!! seriously, also a workout on your jaw is simply clench your teeth and hold for 10 seconds then release and move your mouth around, do it 10 to 15 times. it's so useful

I basically just try to clench my teeth whenever it crosses my mind.

Lately, I’ve been doing this thing in front of the mirror where I make a sort of duck face. I widen my jaw, clench my teeth, and smile like some kind of diva. It feels like there's an instant effect if you do it for about 10-15 minutes, though it doesn't really last all day.

Keep your mouth closed, breathe through your nose, keep your tongue against the roof of your mouth, and find some exercises for your lower jaw muscles (like chewing gum or actual targeted exercises).

You can find plenty of tips and drills on YouTube.
Check out this guy who’s pretty big on this topic:

One more thing.😁
If you want a defined jawline, you can't have excess fat hanging underneath (a double chin).
There's actually a specific massage move for tackling a double chin here (at 7:30):

Update:
I've been running through that first exercise from the link in my last post for a few days now, and honestly, it feels 🙂
.

It’s actually a slightly more moderate version of this one:

Just a heads-up. You really shouldn't be clenching your teeth (some exercises help, but don't overextend by opening your mouth too wide 🙂) if you want to avoid side effects like TMJ issues.

Hey there.

Has anyone here actually stuck with yoga or facial exercises—like, specifically for skin tightening—for at least a few months straight? I’m curious about what the actual results look like after that kind of commitment.

I suppose my main issue is some sagging around my cheeks... basically the lower half of my face... so I'm wondering if these routines actually make a dent in that.

And also, just as an aside, does doing all that movement actually cause more wrinkles?

Hey! So I just started doing Pilates about a week ago, so I guess we'll see if it actually works after a few months... I'll let you guys know how it goes.
