Laura Long5 said:the meetup starts at 10:00 PM 🙂

I know I might be asking for nothing here, but is there any actual chance the meetup really kicks off at 10?
The reason I ask is because I have a math exam on Thursday morning that I really need to ace, and I’d be genuinely bummed to miss out on this.😁

Best regards,

Because I have to take a math exam on Thursday morning and I’d really hate to miss this.😁

Forget about it, friend! Better grab a textbook. I don't think we'll be dragging things out for an hour, but we definitely won't be starting right away either... 🙂

I’ve got a math exam on Thursday morning that I need to nail, and I’d really hate to miss out on this.😁

You're better off staying home and studying because there will be plenty of other parties, and there is zero chance this thing wraps up before 1 AM.
If you hadn't spent the entire year being such a massive jerk, you might actually be able to make it, but look at the mess you've made of things—shame on you.😲
Either make a real choice and be a total degenerate by ditching school, robbing a bank, putting every cent on a single number at the roulette table, and then joining brk and his crew as our roadie.👍

Laura Long5 says:
...and they'll be performing at Papillon out by the riverbank this Wednesday, June 8th..

The lineup includes:
Death disco (a minimalist post-punk trio)
brk (a shameless folk-rock quintet)

Oh, great. Count me in. I guess I’m even willing to give brk a second chance... 😉.

Honestly, I suspect brk might not be looking to give you a second chance! 😁

I’ve got a math midterm on Thursday morning I need to crush, and I’d really hate to miss this.😁

hey kid,
I’ve also got my own licence to kill—or my American driver's license, whatever,
so I could just kick you out myself. 🙂
don't show up late...
if I even end up going... which I'd love to do.

Man, Limun, you really nailed it with that one!
Seriously, what else is there to say?
If someone doesn't get hit by the sheer power of folk music the very first time they hear a song like "Forever Silent" played, then they're just beyond help because they aren't getting another chance to feel something that real in this lifetime!

wiredfalcon2 said:Hey there, kiddo,
I have one too. I've always found that certain cinematic tropes carry a weight that transcends their genre, and there is something uniquely chilling about the concept of having a "license to kill." It’s a heavy phrase, isn't it? When I was younger, growing up in a quiet suburb outside of Chicago, I remember sitting in my father's study, watching old spy thrillers on a grainy television set. There was always this underlying tension—this idea that an individual could be granted legal authority to bypass the moral compass most of us follow daily. It brings to mind those intense moments in classic noir films where the line between justice and vengeance becomes incredibly thin. In our modern American landscape, we often discuss the ethics of authority and the delegation of power, but seeing it played out through the lens of a high-stakes operative adds a layer of psychological complexity that is hard to ignore. It’s not just about the action; it’s about the burden of that permission. It makes you wonder what kind of person actually accepts such a mandate. ...or perhaps just an American driver's license.
I could honestly just kick you out of my house right now. 🙂
I just wanted to send a quick note to make sure you don't arrive too early... I’ve found that if I show up ahead of schedule for these kinds of things, I always end up feeling a bit awkward, standing around waiting while everyone else is still getting settled. It's much better to time it perfectly.
If I end up going... though, honestly, I would love to.
🙂

Well, that would certainly be a lovely thought, wouldn't it? However, after chatting with those folks on the previous page, I've been somewhat convinced that the much wiser move is to simply stay put at home. 😁

Well... if Neven Ciganovic doesn't show up...😛

Oh, I suppose I should mention the concert as well... I’ll be there, provided I make it out of Cleveland on schedule. If not, well, I guess I'm just a total flake. That's about it.

what is - is
it that people don't grasp the weight of folk music until they hear a song like "Forever Silent"? It hits you once, and you realize there won't be another chance like it in this life.
😠

Ha, look—the only time I ever actually listened to them was during a gig when they were playing with Tiger's Paint, and they just didn't do it for me. I can't tell if it was the Tigers, the crowd, the atmosphere, or something else entirely... why the immediate hostility? Besides, I've never really been one for that kind of "trash" stuff. (Though I suppose the word "trash" is practically a staple now.) To be clear, by "trash," I don't mean anything technically poorly played.

Well, I guess what I'm trying to say is that if you aren't a fan of that whole trashy concept to begin with, you might find this version even harder to stomach. It feels like they're going to try extra hard this time to make it even more ridiculous! 😁

Man, what a night! 👋

The Death disco crew absolutely crushed it at 4 PM—I loved every second. 👏 Finally got to meet Laura Long5 in person, too. 🙂

And a brk caused some serious chaos. 😎
The best part? Turns out the singer went to high school with me. Huge respect, man.
Missed seeing Robin Williams6, though. Hopefully next time...

Anyway, cheers everyone, long live the indie scene!

well...it was a lovely party, though the chili was a bit of a disaster...and I suppose I’m not particularly picky about what I eat...so...🙂 I think I'll just take some coffee.

I didn't even try the stew. I couldn't really bring myself to eat it after seeing some bald guy scarfing it down straight from the pot... The music, though, was great.
