Oh, please. I was only 14 at the time, and my family doctor basically just pelted me with antibiotics—she even prescribed me Claritin, which was useless since I’m not allergic to anything (we had run plenty of tests to confirm that)—without ever bothering to order blood work, let alone sinus imaging or lung scans for those several months. In short, I didn't see a single specialist. Things just kept spiraling downward; I started running massive fevers, my inflammation markers were through the roof, and I was dealing with constant coughing and shortness of breath. It wasn't until she finally sent me to a specialist that they actually took notice—that doctor practically grabbed their hair in frustration, wondering what on earth my GP had been doing all this time. I vividly remember my parents being absolutely livid with her. 🦷 Basically, the scans spoke for themselves—both the sinus and lung images—and I had to be put on intensive, aggressive treatment. Not to mention how much school I missed; I actually ended up being admitted to the hospital on my very first day of follow-up testing. It turned out to be severe acute sinusitis that had already transitioned into a chronic issue, and my lungs were riddled with shadows from fluid buildup—everything was just inflamed. Ever since then, my sinuses and I have had a bit of a standoff. 😁
To be honest, I try to avoid antibiotics and similar meds whenever possible, mostly because I feel like I've had enough of them to last a lifetime.
