I only just figured out what this actually is today...

A few days ago, I noticed this little bump right at the entrance of my vagina. I went to see my OB-GYN today, and she told me it’s an inflamed Bartholin's gland. She prescribed some vaginal suppositories and some antibiotics, but after doing a bit of digging, I found this online, and it says it's a cyst that needs to be drained—it didn't mention anything about antibiotics at all.

I was wondering if any of you ladies have dealt with this before? How did you handle it?

I recall my aunt dealing with frequent inflammation of the Bartlett gland
in her 40s. I believe she even considered having it surgically removed,
but just as she was preparing for the hospital, the inflammation subsided, making the procedure impossible.
It was quite a struggle for her, though things eventually settled down on their own.
That’s all I know. 👋

I was reading online that glands swell up like crazy when they’re actually inflamed, so maybe those little bumps you've got aren't even an infection?! Could just be some kind of subcutaneous lump that pops up anywhere on the body... who knows?!

What I'm dealing with feels about the size of a hazelnut. It’s definitely not tiny. Plus, my doctor mentioned it's an inflammation in the gland.

I guess I'm just wondering why she put me on antibiotics when everything I read online says this needs to be drained instead.

Ugh, I’m actually speaking for someone else here...
A close friend of mine went through this—twice, actually.
If I remember right, it started on one side and then popped up on the other, though I could be slightly off on the details.
They tried treating it with antibiotics at first, but honestly? It didn't do a thing. So, they eventually had to just go in and surgically remove it. Twice!

The thing is, here in the US, hospital beds for these kinds of surgeries are constantly booked solid—it's a total nightmare—so maybe that's why they tried the antibiotic route first to save time. She ended up waiting about three months from the moment they finally decided on surgery until she actually got into the OR.
As for why it's happening to you... man, I really wish I knew.
