Back when Robert De Niro packed on an extra 40 pounds or so for his role in Raging Bull, it seemed totally worth it since he absolutely crushed that performance.
But then I’m listening to some random late-night show last night, and they’re claiming Anne Hathaway has to gain like 15 pounds for her part in What it means to be a man without a mustache. Given how tight budgets can get in a Hollywood film, I don't really get why they'd push an actress like that instead of just casting someone who already fits the look for the part.
Does anyone have a logical explanation for this? 😉

To grab a bit of media attention, using tired old lines like 'she had to gain weight for the role' and drawing those inevitable comparisons to Bridget Jones

...maybe she gains it fast so they don't waste too much cash...
They'll probably end up spending way more on the weight loss process anyway...but I guess that falls outside the production budget. Plus, once she's back to her regular size, she can always tell her husband, "Sorry honey, you wouldn't understand, it's called art." That's how it goes. 😁

But I was listening to some random show last night where they mentioned Anne Hathaway has to gain about 15 pounds for a part in a Hollywood film called What it means to be a man without a mustache. Given how tight budgets are in the American film industry, I don't get why they'd push an average actress like that instead of just casting someone who already fits the look.

Right, because we all just roll with whatever environment we happened to be born into, right? We just do what feels right based on our own vibes and whatever suits us best.
The girl clearly thinks the role is worth the effort, so why is that weird? Honestly, I'd much rather deal with gaining a few pounds than being forced onto some insane crash diet. 😁
If you catch my drift—I'm not saying anyone's forcing her hand; she's interested in the job, and maybe she just needs to look a little more "fuller" for the part... and let's face it, who doesn't love 😉 ...

Given how tight budgets are in the US film industry lately, I just don't get why they'd push an average actress like that when they could just cast someone who already fits the look perfectly.

From what I saw, it wasn't even a struggle for her. Honestly? She crushed it!

The girl clearly thinks the role is worth all that sweat and effort, so I don't see what the big deal is... honestly, I'd rather she have to put on some weight for a part than be forced into some grueling diet. 😁
I think you get my point—I'm not saying anyone is forcing her hand, it's just that for the role she wants, she needs a slightly more elegant fullness... because who actually likes 😉 ...

It's a misunderstanding. I'm not talking about Anne Hathaway's desire to land a part in this movie. In a low-budget Hollywood film, it’s totally normal for actors to fight for roles. My issue is with the casting director. Wouldn't it be way easier to just pick someone whose look already fits the vision instead of stressing over whether an actress can adapt? For God's sake, it's not like she's Anne De Niro, and this isn't going to be some massive blockbuster anyway. 😉

It’s not like Anne Hathaway is going to save this, and honestly, it’s not like this is going to be some massive Hollywood film either. 😉

Come on, just admit who's paying you to lobby for them! Just put a name on it already. 😁

You know the rule... never disrespect someone who’s clearly had work done or spends their life obsessing over women whose names rhyme with a wheelbarrow. So, I take back everything I said about you being too critical of Hollywood films. 😁

I’ve always had this little daydream about playing the part of Superman in some big Hollywood film.

I can't wrap my head around which American actor pulled off the most insane transformation for a role.

Anyone?

Darija Knez in the film LET IT BE. Nobody’s seen that movie, nobody even noticed she was in it, yet somehow she snagged a Golden Rose for the performance. Talk about skill—being so understated and invisible, yet still...
