Jacob's Ladder

Since there isn't a dedicated thread for this movie, I figured I'd just start one here...

On Saturday at 1:10 AM on ABC, they’re airing this incredible horror flick by Adrian Lyne. The plot follows a Vietnam veteran dealing with a total psychological breakdown, haunted by terrifying nightmares after coming home from the war. If you just read that summary, it sounds pretty bleak, but the movie is actually fantastic. Horror fans will get a kick out of it, though don't go in expecting your typical slasher or some gore-fest. This is different. It's a real watch. I’d especially suggest it to anyone who digs the Silent Hill games, since the film was actually an inspiration for that series.

So, if you're into psychological horror with actual twists, this is a must see.

That’s what it is with Tim Robbins, right? If so, then it’s a damn good movie.

I wouldn't even label that movie a horror; it feels more like an intense psychological drama to me. Personally, I found it incredibly heavy to sit through. It’s definitely a good film, but you really have to be in the right headspace for it.

Has anyone actually seen this movie? If you have, what’s your take? Honestly, it’s easily the best film I’ve ever watched in my absurdly long life (😛). Tim Robbins absolutely kills it in his role as a Vietnam veteran

He isn't exactly a veteran; truth be told, he barely even left his bed. Granted, the eighties were a phenomenal era, weren't they? Studios were throwing around massive amounts of money for projects like this—take *Brazil*, for instance.

I’ve already seen this one twice, but if I don't catch it live this Saturday, I am definitely making sure to record it... 👍

An excellent film with an unforgettable ending. It definitely leans into horror territory—think that creepy tail on the homeless man or that disturbing sex scene in the disco. Truly a great piece of cinema; I’ve watched it twice and only let myself tear up once during that final scene...
It just irritates me how they butchered the title for the American release by calling it Jacob's Ladder of Horror. Why on earth would they add "of Horror" to the title? Such a mindless addition...

This is an absolute masterpiece, one I’ve revisited several times now.

While this particular theme has been explored by filmmakers many times before, in my estimation, this film handles it with the most conviction and visual elegance 🙂 ever captured on screen.

To be honest, during my first viewing, I completely missed that sudden, jarring voice that breaks through during one specific scene 😉
