I’m honestly guessing this is just straight-up burnout. My eyes are driving me crazy—they're super dry, itchy, and they sting so bad. It actually hurts to even look at things. I catch myself rubbing them constantly, which obviously just makes everything ten times worse. I wear glasses, usually around -2.25 and -2.00, but I can't seem to focus on anything. Staring at a screen feels like literal torture right now. I actually went to my eye doctor for a checkup a few weeks ago, updated my prescription, and everything seemed fine then. Any advice on how to deal with this?

hm.....
look, I basically sorted my own mess out about two years ago when I updated my prescription. I went with plastic lenses—strictly because they’re lighter—but made sure they had built-in blue light filters because my eyes were literally stinging and throbbing constantly. I couldn't even look at a computer screen without feeling like garbage,
plus, I spent some time tossing eye vitamins into my daily routine and honestly, things cleared up pretty fast.

You should definitely hit up your ophthalmologist, though. They'll give you the real deal advice, but if your current glasses don't have those filters, I'd highly recommend asking them what they suggest,
the catch is you'll probably have to pay for a whole new set of lenses plus the cost of adding the filter (I think it's roughly $33 per lens, which isn't exactly breaking the bank).

yeah, whatever... $33 on glass...

I’ve reached a breaking point... grinding at the desk 8 to 10 hours a day, at least 6 days a week... then spending another hour surfing just to unwind... it's getting old...
Missed that...
Everything's blurring... can't even focus...
Everything was just... murky...
Couldn't get the shot in focus...
Not even reading a book...
nothing...
Total mess... everything went south...
Those windows are an upgrade... better.
Gotta start taking shorter breaks...
Just gotta chill for like 10 seconds... every half hour or so while working... keeps you sane...
Even a drop was there...
just from staring...
Forgot to blink...
Supposedly green is supposed to be easy on the eyes... whatever...
Office plant died... again...
Man, I was staring at her so hard...
or from that one...
Or just straight up neglecting it...
People say...
just means problems exist...
Don't want to see this shit... not after everything I've already seen...
lol...
when i rewind the movie...
Same thing happened over here...😢

I’ve got anti-reflective coating on my lenses—my eye doctor actually suggested it since I spend basically my whole life staring at a computer screen.
I honestly think my eyes are just trashed because my sleep schedule is a total disaster. Between working way too much and barely getting any shut-eye, my eyes are always the first thing to feel the hit. It’s that constant, nagging feeling you get when you’re running on empty... you know, that groggy, "just woke up from a nap and everything hurts" kind of vibe? It just plain hurts.

Chloe Nguyen3, what kind of eye vitamins have you been using lately?

do you think these eye issues we're all dealing with are actually triggered by staring at screens all day because I've been telling myself it isn't just the computer work since I definitely had some vision stuff going on way before I started working on my laptop, though I definitely notice more strain now that I'm glued to the screen for hours on end.

And hey, maybe you’re starting to deal with presbyopia—you know, that whole thing where your eyes just lose the ability to adjust their shape to focus on stuff up close... yeah, it’s basically just part of getting older, like that age-related farsightedness everyone talks about. Since you've been dealing with myopia forever anyway, it’s kind of a nasty little combo to be stuck with...

Hey, 😢Noah Myers8, if you figure anything out, please let me know! 😢
I’m dealing with the exact same thing lately, except I can't even wear sunglasses in my office without feeling like my eyes are being scorched.😕
It’s not like I need glasses or anything... but my eyes are constantly itching and burning, and looking at a computer screen? Ugh, forget it. It feels like staring directly into the sun. It’s driving me absolutely crazy. I don't think it's pink eye or anything like that, though.
In the meantime, I’ve been loading up on these over-the-counter eye drops, but honestly, they aren't doing squat anymore.
😢I seriously look like a character from a vampire movie right now.

Maybe I'm just rambling here—but I used to deal with this nasty conjunctivitis almost every single year around summer time—until it finally clicked that it was actually just allergies.

Just think about it... does it only happen in the summer, or maybe during spring or fall when pollen counts are through the roof? 😛

I find myself wondering why it hasn't occurred to anyone else that this might all be stemming from just staring at a screen for far too many hours on end. Honestly, it’s quite obvious if you think about it.
Noah Myers8, you’ve got nearly 1,600 posts under your belt here, so surely you’ve had enough time to sit back and reflect on that little detail.
(Personally, ever since I started spending significant time hanging out on this forum, I’ve noticed my eyes burning much more frequently than usual. It isn't anything else besides the computer usage—let's not kid ourselves.

Some people literally make their living staring at a screen all day
what's the big deal about 1,600 posts
compared to that
her eyes didn't get stuck on this forum

it was from working, idiot

Give me a break.

Just look at my post count.

And my eyes are still perfectly fine.

Ugh, I just fried my eyes looking at an average of 2.6 posts per day😁

waso, maybe it's allergies? As far as I know, I'm not really an allergy person. If it is, then I'm just talking nonsense. If it's allergies though, what's the move? Is there some kind of fix or am I just stuck waiting for pollen season to die down?

Honestly, all this has me a little spooked because I’ve been feeling pretty terrible lately—a few days ago I came back from Target and just collapsed on the floor. My body is definitely not running at 100% right now.😢

There's definitely help—you can just take antihistamines when it hits. Though, you really should probably get tested to be sure. Not sure if there are other options besides those skin injections, and honestly, you won't catch me getting those! 😁 😁 😁

As for collapsing at the grocery store... I have no idea. That would be one weird allergy. 😁 😁

I mean, there's this whole group of people called doctors... 😉

Oh, and about the eye thing and the forum—maybe you aren't spending enough time here? Maybe that's why your eyes are shot (if you'll excuse the phrasing). 😁 😁

shots😁😁😁
I’m basically a total Freud fanatic here, which is just a fancy way of saying I’m terrified of needles and having my credit card info swiped😁 so yeah, no thanks, I won't be signing up for any testing😁

umm, hey waso, how does a big tough guy like you get scared of shots?😁

It’s not really about being scared of shots—I just prefer playing around with different meds instead. 😁 😁 😁 😁

Anyway, let's not get into that... 😳 🙂

allergy tests aren't actually injections, at least not how they do them here in the States

they just use this tiny little lancet to make small scratches on your forearm, I ended up with about 18 on each arm since each scratch is for a different allergen, and then they drop a bit of the irritant onto each spot and check for a reaction after ten minutes or so so you know exactly what's triggering you

my eyes have been acting up all summer long... and I can't even take antihistamines because of how they react with my other medications, so I just rely on Allegra whenever it actually works, but if it doesn't, well, I guess that's just life

just try not to rub them, because that usually makes the irritation even worse

maybe give the new Allegra Allergy a shot, it seems a bit stronger

allergies tend to hit you out of nowhere most of the time

I actually found out just last weekend that I'm allergic to walnuts😢 and I've never had an issue with them before in my life

as far as environmental allergies go, I can't stand common grass😕, maple, ragweed, jasmine, and house dust... I think testing for ragweed is kind of silly, like nobody actually wants to be around it anyway, so why bother

And just like that, it's starting to bloom...

electricdriver78, I honestly find it wild that I’m developing allergies at 27. Like, I used to live with pets all the time and was totally fine... I just don't get it. It makes zero sense.

How did you even figure out it was specifically walnuts causing the issue?

So, what actually triggers allergies? Is it just an immune system glitch? How does that whole process even work?
