Too many gross scenesโ€”I guess they're trying to break up the tension,
The whole movie is just revolting. Honestly? Itโ€™s more nauseating than it is scary.
๐Ÿ˜ณ

A few years back, I watched this documentary on PBS about how 70s American horror films were tied to the Vietnam Warโ€”how those two things feed off each other.
Maybe this is supposed to be a commentary on the chaos in Iraq or what terrorists do to journalists right in front of a lens... reality imitating art, once again.
๐Ÿ˜ณ

And I seriously don't get it. How can Americans (the general public, anyway) be totally fine with explicit scenes of murder and mutilation, yet lose their minds over nudity?
Especially when it's guys.๐Ÿ˜ฌ

I didn't catch the very beginningโ€”or maybe it just didn't even show up on screen
I don't get how that girl turned into a zombie at the start?

I don't quite get how that girl became a zombie at the very beginning?

The film doesn't explicitly explain it, but honestly, itโ€™s not even relevant to the story. Within the first ten minutes, the audience is already plunged into total chaos, which is the whole point of this remakeโ€”it's about the action and the mayhem, not the "why." (Though, if you're actually interested in the mechanics behind it, you should probably track down Night of the Living Dead or the original Dawn of the Dead)

Thatโ€™s the whole point of this remakeโ€”it's about the action and the mayhem, not some deep dive into the 'why.' (Though, if you're really that obsessed with the backstory, just go watch Night of the Living Dead or the original Dawn of the Dead.)

Yeah...
And that opening sequence is actually pretty well doneโ€”those aerial shots were great.

Great movie! I consider myself a horror buffโ€”though Iโ€™m pretty damn picky, so I rarely find films in this genre that don't let me down. This one actually caught me off guard in the best way possible. I haven't seen the original, but I can tell you right now: Romer's Land of the Dead is a weaker flick than this remake.

Yeah, it was a fantastic remake! I just can't wrap my head around how those zombies move so fast though. ๐Ÿ™‚

Toโ€™s true, I haven't quite wrapped my head around the whole zombie logic either. In some movies, theyโ€™re just sluggishโ€”the kind you could outrun three times over or toy with easily. If I were facing those slow types, I guess Iโ€™d just grab a baseball bat and get to work. ๐Ÿ˜
But in this one, they move with the speed of Ben Johnson on a heavy steroid cycle.
It's a shame they don't bother explaining the origin or the mechanics of the virus, but I suppose the ending is still the best I've seen in this genre. ๐Ÿ™

Did anyone actually stick around in the theater for the credits?
๐Ÿ˜•
Because the story doesn't stop until the very last names roll onscreen.

Itโ€™s a bummer they don't explain the origin of the virus, but that ending is easily the best part of any movie in this genre. ๐Ÿ™

You aren't kidding... in some flicks, they go down from a single punch to the head, while in others, they wouldn't even flinch at a gunshot. The most frustrating part for me was that guy in Night of the Living Dead, acting all smart for a zombie ๐Ÿ˜  only for some idiot to have a clear shot at him at the end and then just give up. ๐Ÿ˜

It makes no sense.๐Ÿ˜

In certain films, they can actually catch you, and within thirty seconds, they're practically hovering over you to bite. They seem way more agile than your average Olympic sprinter here. ๐Ÿ˜
They are either fast or slow; one simply has to decide which version we are dealing with. I suppose Resident Evil explains it quite clearlyโ€”they are driven by nothing but basic instincts, so once they spot food, they just lose it. ๐Ÿ™ ๐Ÿ˜

Theyโ€™re either fast or slow, just pick a side! It's clearly explained in Resident Evilโ€”they're driven purely by basic instincts, so once they spot food, they lose it completely. ๐Ÿ™ ๐Ÿ˜

Did you notice how some zombies only go for brains while others try to eat the whole body? ๐Ÿ™‚

And the craziest part is that the ash from a burned zombie floating over a cemetery could potentially wake up the entire graveyard! ๐Ÿคฃ

I am planning to order quite a few movies over the next week, so I would appreciate some advice on which zombie films are actually worth watching๐Ÿ™.s ๐Ÿ™
The one from this thread, its original... what else is there?

Everything Iโ€™ve watched latelyโ€”you really should check these out: Romeroโ€™s Day of the Dead, Land, and Night of the Living Dead. Also, Return of the Living Dead 1 and 2... they're a bit more lighthearted, if you know what I mean. Re-Animator might be on par with Return, but I haven't seen it yet, so I can't say for sure!

You should check out everything Roger Allen3 recommended, plus Shaun of the Dead, Night of the Living Dead (Romero and Savinijev), The Beyond (if you count those as zombiesโ€”the second half of the movie anyway), and Undead, etc.

Regarding this Dawn of the Dead (from the thread), I suppose itโ€™s by Romero too?
Which one features that Black zombie acting as some kind of intelligent leader?

That Romero flick definitely isn't for beginners! I actually haven't seen the Savinijev one yet.๐Ÿ˜ข

What's being discussed here is that Snyder remake... that smart Black zombie shows up in Land of the Dead.

I've seen a few of them, though I can't for the life of me remember the titles. I think I caught that one mentioned in the headline featuring the smart Black lead, and maybe even that one where the group just messes around with the zombies, washing them and all that nonsense ๐Ÿ˜
